A book judging other parents
I bought this book hoping to learn a few pregnancy/parenting tips in a funny manner as a first time mom. The author instead uses sarcasm to judge other people’s choices, and speaks of her own experience as though it’s fact. For example saying that breastfeeding hurts everyone when any lactation consultant will tell you that breastfeeding actually shouldn’t hurt, and perhaps there’s a latch issue etc. I wouldn’t recommend this book unless you’re a rude person, who likes to laugh at other people’s efforts to make yourself feel better.

Did not age well
I know this book came out and 2006 and certainly a lot of what is acceptable has changed, but some parts of this book were pretty hard to sit through. While I appreciate the sentiment of “don’t buy into the parenting bs”, and the book certainly had its moments, the blatant fat phobia, racism, internalized misogyny and occasional homophobia just weren’t cool. And while they overt characterizations of types of moms were meant to be comedic, it just came off as judgey and mean.
