À propos de cet audio

Combining mystery and mythology, this epic fantasy is a global best seller with over 300,000 copies sold.

India, 3400 BCE. The ancient kingdom of Mithila is divided by corruption, resentment, and poverty. An abandoned baby is found in a field protected by a vulture from a pack of wolves. Soon adopted by the rulers of the land, she is named Sita, and raised as a princess and beloved daughter.

But the neglected kingdom of Mithila continues to face dangerous political troubles due to its selfish, apathetic king. In a bid to stabilize affairs, Sita's mother, Queen Sunaina, sends the spirited young princess away to a gurukul to complete her education. Under the guidance of her guru she discovers her true destiny: to become a warrior who will defend Dharma. A Goddess who will protect her people until the end of time.

I enjoyed this audiobook so much that I ended up buying the physical copy as well. I appreciated this feminist retelling of a mythological story and the fresh perspective it brings.

What stood out most to me was the portrayal of the female protagonist as strong, brave, and fully capable—equally deserving as the male protagonist. Unlike many traditional versions where female characters are shown as passive or helpless, this story gives her agency and strength.

I felt the book captured the essence of Sita’s courage in a way that is rarely explored, while still respecting the spirit of the original Ramayana. As a retelling, it offers a thoughtful and modern interpretation without being dismissive of the source material.

The supporting characters are also well written, with their own abilities and meaningful roles, making the story feel layered and engaging.

A feminist take on the Ramayana
