Publisher's Summary

Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd.

But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for...but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact, everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life - a time he has never gotten over - is turned completely inside out.

As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction.

Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking novel that deftly explores the power of past love and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.

Enjoyable read with excellent narration

Although the storyline resembles that of other Harlan Coben plotlines, there were enough plot twists and turns to make it and interesting read. The narrator was excellent.

Six years.

Well written but very predictable at times. Some conclusions are presented as a big reveal but I already put it together. That being said it was a nice ride.

Full packed

Lots going on and many names to follow. Keeps you guessing. I felt it was a little too long for me.

How did I get through this?

Where do I start?. The story started off really interesting but then becomes convoluted, and far fetched. There are far too many characters. It felt like the author was throwing everything in there to confuse the reader. The writing was long winded and theres too much filler. Suspense is created when a character is just about to reveal info and then theres a description of a pumpernickel sandwich or someone's outfit for the next 5 minutes. . Then theres a 10 minute back and forth of "tell me what happened...Response you dont want know" This happens numerous times in the book and literally goes on for ages. I cant believe I got through it lol.

Plodding despite great narration

A real slog … had to keep giving it another try but just not there. In all fairness not really a Coben fan.. but wanted to like it.

Excellent

I choose this audiobook because I knew I’d love the narration- Scott Brick is my favourite. This is the first Harlan Corben book for me and I loved the twists and turns. Definitely will seek out more.

Coben's Worst Story

Harlen Coben is a great writer of intrigue and thriller novels. Six Hours shows none of the skill evident in his other books. The plot is pitifully weak. The constant repetition of plot points and dialogue is little more than page filler. Our hero is Jack Reacher sized a college professor in his 30's with experience as a bouncer, yet Coben has him performing feats that would leave a Navy Seal in awe. None of the characters are fleshed out. Coben is famous for his plot twists, but you can see the ending coming from a mile away.

Exacerbating the angst ridden interior dialogue is the narrators delivery which is overdone and sounds like he is on the verge of tears for much of the book.

If this had been my first Coben novel, I would have never read another. As it is, I would be wary about buying another of his books.
