On Lansdown Hill, near Bath, England, a battle between Roundheads and Cavaliers that took place over 350 years ago is annually reenacted. Two of the reenactors discover a skeleton that is female, headless, and only about twenty years old. One of them, a professor who played a Cavalier, is later found murdered. In the course of his investigation, Peter Diamond butts heads with the group of vigilantes who call themselves the Lansdown Society, discovering in the process that his boss Georgina is a member. She resolves to sideline Diamond, but matters don't pan out in accordance with her plans.

Another great Diamond mystery

Narration superb. Very Good plot line. Diamond's perseverance pays off though he is as demanding of his crew as ever. A very good police procedural.

Another winner

Peter Lovesey has another great story under his belt. Even better, Simon Prebble is the narrator. Simon has the perfect voice for the Peter Diamond character. Unfortunately he does not narrate all the Diamond books....

A rare free gem

The Inspector Diamond books are a treat to listen to. The plot keeps one in suspense and the narration is beyond excellent. Characters are believably real. I recommend listening to all the Peter Lovesey Inspector Diamond novels
