About this listen

Laurell K. Hamilton has captivated readers with her gritty, seductive tales of vampire hunter Anita Blake for thirty bloody fantastic years. Now, in the thirtieth novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, wedding bells are ringing. But before Anita can make it to the altar, she must face an obstacle more daunting than any supernatural threat....

Necromancer Anita Blake is small, dark, and dangerous. Her turf is the city of St. Louis. Her job: U.S. Marshal—Preternatural Branch. She’s faced horrifying monsters and brutal killers and come out the other side still standing.

Considering how things in her life tend to go, Anita never expected her walk down the aisle with Jean-Claude to go smoothly. They’ve already been confronted with naysayers and a power-hungry ancient evil, but now Anita has to do the one thing that actually scares her: introduce her very religious, very human relatives to her fiancé—the newly crowned vampire king of America.

As Anita tries to keep the peace between the family she left behind and the family she’s chosen, dark forces jump at the chance to take advantage of the chaos. With her happy-ever-after at risk and everyone’s immortal souls hanging in the balance, Anita grapples with a hard truth: Blood makes you related, but loyalty makes you family.

I am 5 and a half HOURS in and all that has happened is dinner with the fam and Wicked and Truth injured. Literally. She is summarizing every book written whenever she refers to a character. The dialogue is syrupy and just yuck. In the middle of an emergency! I'm glad it's no longer just about sex (I mean, that was a really tough phase), but just assume we've read the previous books and actually write a book with lots of action and story momentum. Name a character, remind me what animal they are and move on. This book could have been written in a couple hundred pages, or maybe 2 or 3 hours of listening. NOT 12

But where is the plot??

loved it! I just wish it would go on. I can't wait for the wedding.

An enjoyable read

More spice!!! None of the men sounded like what I imagined unfortunately. More details! The end was anticlimactic and I wanted details. What happened with Otto, the wicked truth healing could have been more detailed, who helped grandma Blake, what was learned from the body? The only real spice was deleted from the book and added as a bonus. Kane’s part could have been more maybe I’m being dark but Asher could have gotten more back lash or suffered the same fate as Kane. The triplets just more:
I liked the story besides the last hour and the lack of spice.

More spice, more end details!!!!!!

Yes, the kick-ass, decisive heroine I have loved for 29 books has been suddenly betrayed by her writer and turned into a screaming girl frightened of her own shadow. This is so disappointing-maybe Laurell is just hoping we move to her new series and not worry about the two series she had going (Merry seems to be completely forgotten at this point - too bad, I loved that series even more than Anita). Why, Ms. Hamilton, why?

Anita turns into a scared little girl.
