I make a living out of screwing over the jerks who capture and torment supernatural beasties. But when I free a bunch of particularly powerful monsters from their cages, I'm not counting on them following me home like lost puppies - stunningly hot lost puppies, but still. These manly monsters are determined to repay me for my help, and they won't get out of my apartment, until they're satisfied we're even. There's something to be said for allies so devoted they'll tear off heads and shred souls on your behalf. I'm all for joining forces.

Publisher's Summary
Laurell K. Hamilton has captivated audiences with her gritty, seductive tales of vampire hunter Anita Blake for thirty bloody fantastic years. Now, in the thirtieth novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, wedding bells are ringing. But before Anita can make it to the altar, she must face an obstacle more daunting than any supernatural threat....
Necromancer Anita Blake is small, dark, and dangerous. Her turf is the city of St. Louis. Her job: U.S. Marshal—Preternatural Branch. She’s faced horrifying monsters and brutal killers and come out the other side still standing.
Considering how things in her life tend to go, Anita never expected her walk down the aisle with Jean-Claude to go smoothly. They’ve already been confronted with naysayers and a power-hungry ancient evil, but now Anita has to do the one thing that actually scares her: introduce her very religious, very human relatives to her fiancé—the newly crowned vampire king of America.
As Anita tries to keep the peace between the family she left behind and the family she’s chosen, dark forces jump at the chance to take advantage of the chaos. With her happy-ever-after at risk and everyone’s immortal souls hanging in the balance, Anita grapples with a hard truth: Blood makes you related, but loyalty makes you family.

But where is the plot??
I am 5 and a half HOURS in and all that has happened is dinner with the fam and Wicked and Truth injured. Literally. She is summarizing every book written whenever she refers to a character. The dialogue is syrupy and just yuck. In the middle of an emergency! I'm glad it's no longer just about sex (I mean, that was a really tough phase), but just assume we've read the previous books and actually write a book with lots of action and story momentum. Name a character, remind me what animal they are and move on. This book could have been written in a couple hundred pages, or maybe 2 or 3 hours of listening. NOT 12

Yikes
I don’t know what to say. The performance was amazing. She’s a 10 out of 10 at all times that’s about all that’s good about this. I don’t know if it’s just me but but 29 didn’t feel complete. Now 30 didn’t address everything that happened in 29. For the future books I’m just going to wait and borrow from the library and keep my money.

More spice, more end details!!!!!!
More spice!!! None of the men sounded like what I imagined unfortunately. More details! The end was anticlimactic and I wanted details. What happened with Otto, the wicked truth healing could have been more detailed, who helped grandma Blake, what was learned from the body? The only real spice was deleted from the book and added as a bonus. Kane’s part could have been more maybe I’m being dark but Asher could have gotten more back lash or suffered the same fate as Kane. The triplets just more:
I liked the story besides the last hour and the lack of spice.

Worst book ever!
There’s just something about the writer who cannot tell the story without unnecessary sex that takes away from the story. She’s in a hospital trying to save somebody else and every man in the room just wants to screw her. No care for the wicked truth!!! Please take away the distractions, give us a real book.

Finally!
Enjoyed immensely. A look into Anita’s family was so good. Everyone was in the book and they weren’t all having sex non stop ! It was all good story! The only thing I hated was Olaf, still think all her lovers should kill his ass, I don’t care if he’s a good man in a fight, he needs to go, if all these people love Anita and care about her safety he would have died in The Harlequin. Pleassssse! Overall great book, great narration. Happy dance to have Nicky, Micah and Richard in it! ❤️💕❤️

It’s all Anita fault
Everything that goes wrong is because she cannot stop EXPLAINING EVERYTHING!!! Geez I don’t care who she loves, why does that take up 8 hours of a 12 hour book?!?! When you are in dire circumstances do you really stop everything to explain the whole backstory? No…the answer is no, when it’s an emergency the fight if flight response SHOULD shut off everything else. Survive, escape, s. SURVIVE. Not explain the rest of us are literally 30 years into this series, let the newbies catch up on their own time, or as I’ve said before Ms Hamilton should just write the Poly self help book the one time and let us all off the hook

Not the Best
The best part about this series anymore is Olaf, in my opinion. There has seriously been way too much rambling. I'm beginning to believe she doesn't have an editor to proofread the books before publishing them. We do not need to be taken down memory lane on everyone. We know who the characters are at this point. We are 30 books in.
Also, it is a book you don't need to delete parts. If you wanted to make the book 20 hrs long, trust me, no one is going to complain it's not like it's a movie. There isn't an actual time limit you need to have for a book, and I believe the author has forgotten that.
Stop rushing the good parts and prolonging the talking about the emotion part. it's just getting repetitive and boring. Not to mention making Anita look like a cry baby. She is supposed to be a strong female character, and she once was, but not anymore. Anymore, she just looks like a clueless damsel in destress waiting for someone else to come fix all her problems. I hope the next installment we get some of her spark back with less rambling because if it's not better, I honestly don't know if I will continue with this series any further.

Disappointed
I have read evobook in this series and it seems with each new book, the main character rambling gets longer and the hot scenes, and interactions we have come to love have gotten shorter. In this book, the dialog with her family was TOO Long, The main character rambled throughout the entire book, and scenes that should have been longer or included were cut out or rushed at the end. Example, the healing of Wicked Truth. I would rather have this full scene written in and the whole interaction with her family shortened. So many scene opportunities missed in this book. Girl, wake up!

It has good points and bad points.
I have been a fan for about 25ish of the 30 years that this series has been out. I have most of the books in hardcover. I tend to get them the day they come out. I feel like things have gone steadily downhill since Ireland (Crimson Death), but I'm still giving it 3 stars because it had a lot of stuff I do like, and the narrator was excellent.
I like the 4 horsemen. I like mysteries. I love any sort of cop/swat detective work. I love explosions. I even like vampire and lycanthrope politics. That's all excellent content.
Now, I don't know when Anita became careless and stupid, but it's getting worse over time and half of this book's events were caused directly by her own carelessness and stupidity and the carelessness and stupidity of people who are supposed to be professional bodyguards.
Making mistakes is fine, but using bumbling error as a major plot mover over and over is just bad writing.
And despite her protestations that she is NOT the damsel in distress, she was. She took almost no effective action the entire book. I get that her power was diminished, but that should not turn her and nearly every character in the book except Edward into a fool.
Also, you have no freaking idea how much I absolutely hate hearing every single character talk about therapy endlessly. I have never seen an author become so obsessed with every character being in therapy and have them talking about it constantly. It makes it feel as though the author no longer has outside contact with anyone other than her therapist and can no longer relate to regular people who aren't completely obsessed with therapy.
I'd like to see a little less hate on religion.
Therianthrope is cringe as well.
I hope the author can get off of reddit and start writing something good for the next book, because it really feels like cheeto-dusted basement dwellers on a shit ton of psych meds wrote this.
