A unique polio story

This was an excellent biography. As polio was so prevalent in the 60’s, I’m surprised I have not read more biographical accounts of those stricken by the disease as children. Peg’s account takes you from the moment she noticed a symptom until she walked again, and along the way you meet the friends she made, none of who were as lucky as her in terms of timely treatment and recovery. It’s compelling stuff. Highly recommended.

What a lovely story about at terrible illness

I started re-listening as soon as I finished! Peg was a spunky kid who made the best of a frightening experience. The story is told through a child’s eyes which is just the right way to do this! Narration was spot on - I really felt like I was listening to a 12 yo remember how it felt to wake up paralyzed.
