She doesn't want to shackle herself to another man in marriage, but sometimes, she wonders if she is lonely.

Both are unwilling to face the truth until they find themselves alone together one night, and Lydia surprises even herself with a simple question: "Are you ever lonely?" Harry's answer leads them down a path neither could ever have imagined....

The first long part of the novel is backstory. Although Mary Balogh rarely writes an unrelatable story, I really didn't expect that Harry's romance would be another. It's wrong and I can't really tell why. Heroine was unrelatable to, Story and end were predictable. I am so disappointed. Maybe I wanted too much or, maybe, the Westscott series should have ended with the previous book.

Mary Balogh writes wonderful romances …the characters are so lovable and the poignancy of her novels captures the reader in a wonderful escape in history. Rosalyn Landor is the perfect narrator, one of my favourites, as her performance of each character captures the writers words with humour and meaningful interactions. I loved the entire Westcott series …will there be another to follow? I hope so!
