Navy SEAL Keith “Chunk” Redman's been one of the military’s top doorkickers since the day he pinned on his trident: loyal, single-minded, lethal. Tasked to lead a new, covert team of Tier One SEALs - the most elite special operators in the world - he can no longer simply rely on the status quo. To safeguard America, he needs help to stay a step ahead of its adversaries. Brilliant at spotting patterns in the data that others miss, ex-CIA analyst Whitney Watts sees evidence of a troubling link between illicit Chinese arms sales and an attack on a US military convoy in Afghanistan.

Publisher's Summary
All empires eventually fall....
The United States is no exception...
And out of the embers, a lawless new empire will rise....
Across the world, the United States recalls troops to combat civil unrest after the biggest economic meltdown in history. Marine Sergeant Ronaldo Salvatore’s platoon comes home to a powder keg that could ignite a civil war. While some see the coming collapse as the end, others see opportunity.
Fleeing Naples after rival crime lords decimated his family, Don Antonio Moretti settles in Los Angeles to rebuild his criminal empire. But he is far from alone in his ambitions - the cartel and rival gangs all want the same turf, and they will sacrifice their own soldiers and the blood of innocents to get it.
As open warfare erupts across the states, Salvatore fights his way back to LA, where his son has joined the police in the battle for a city spiraling into anarchy. Family is everything, and the Morettis and Salvatores will do what they must to protect their own. But how far will they go to survive in a new economy where the only currency is violence?
The explosive new Sons of War series is a harrowing and realistic depiction of what a second American Civil War and the aftermath might look like, from former Homeland Security Disaster Mitigation Officer and New York Times best-selling author Nicholas Sansbury Smith.

A whole new story & a voice to capture us all
I was not sure I'd like this book, to be honest. I'm not a big fan of mobster type stories. But from the first moment I began to listen, I was enthralled. The action started and just never stopped. Before I knew it I was halfway through it and still listening at every single chance I got. This is a whole new series to jump in on from the ground up. It's incredibly good and well worth the low cost to get it. Nicholas Sansbury Smith continues to wow us with his spectacular ability to weave his world all around us. And when you pair Nick up with Ray Porter, the reading of this incredible book of this is just astounding.

A new voice!
No, not Sansbury Smith—he’s a seasoned pro. (Ray Porter is too.... BUT)
However, I am used to him being paired with R.C. Bray. When I’d heard rumor of this book, I was immediately on the edge of my seat, (Im)patiently waiting for it’s release.
Midnight hit and I was on it! I can’t believe how good this is. Porter and Smith are the new voice to beat!

Awesome new series from Nick Smith
This is a new spin to an apocalyptic event. No zombies, variants or aliens. No EMP strike but something so relatable to this day in America. Economy collapse sees our hero's fighting to recover some sense of normalcy battling against an Italian mafia and drug lords. This is a page turner that will keep you up at night reading. If you loved the Trackers series, you'll love this series. Can't wait for the next book. Fantastic job Nick.

Who can you trust?
The author has done it again with this crazy-good new series set in Los Angeles. The United States is mostly a nuclear post-apocalyptic landscape with highly sought-after resources, warring mobsters and gangs. The police department is heavily corrupted. A small, specialized task force trying to keep Los Angeles from spiraling deeper into the abyss is doing its best to stay a step ahead of the powerful crime families. This story will pull you in with the strong plot building, cast of characters and exceptional writing. Highly recommended and eagerly awaiting the next book in the series!

Smith brings another winner!
I don't think there is a style that Smith can not write. I'll admit I would have never read a Mafia book. Not because I dislike them but because I just didn't have an interest in it. However I do love TEOTWAWKI books and I enjoy Smith's books. The story is well researched and has sparked an interest in Mafia books. The war aspect of this book is scary real. Until recent events I felt this kind of war was imminent. This is the first time I have listened to this narrator and I enjoyed how he brought these characters to life. If you like war books, Mafia stories or any type of TEOTWAWKI book, this is for you.

Very poor story from this Author
I have really enjoyed many of the books that Smith has written. In fact, I purchased this book largely because it was written by him. Porter, as always is excellent.
The story is very confusing and disconnected. It goes from an Italian crime family to atomic blast to a Rebellion. It seems like he’s trying to get three stories in one, and while that can be good in some books, it certainly wasn’t in this book.
I would not recommend this book to anyone I know.

Love this story about competing crime families in LA vying for being the top dog in Los Angeles after a world-wide economic collapse. The characters are gripping - some you love and some you love to hate. You don't need monsters when you have evil men. Can't wait for the next book to come out!
