Heartfelt and intimate.

Prince Harry is my spirit animal
An ex-pat Brit living in Canada for 25 years, there are reasons I left the place I was born and grew up: emotional repression; institutional racism; and misogeny were major factors. I genuinely thought those things were changing in the UK, but it appears not at an institutional level at least.
I started this out of straight-up curiosity and continued because of the honesty, vulnerability, eloquence, humour, insightfulness, compassion, and frankly the intelligence of the voice telling the story. I'm sure Harry Wales had a damn good editor, yet I heard my own experiences echoed at every step. He demonstrates critical thinking skills and vocabulary that are mocked in the British media and sometimes by my own friends and family.
Everyone has their own story, and this one speaks truth to power in a way that clearly upsets the ones with the power. That is commonly what happens with whiatle blowers. I've been that elephant in the room and the voice of someone who simply doesn't care anymore about the class and social contracts that keep the status quo. This absolutely spoke to my own experience: as a feminist, as a queer person, and as someone who, sadly, chose to live in a different culture when the weight of their own became intolerable.
If nothing else, it's simply a fantastic listen, and I loved that it's Harry telling his own story and not flinching away from any aspect. Bravo and thank you.

So much focus on the salacious in the media, but that’s not what this book is about.
Every time he gets to a part that was leaked and I’m anticipating I might cringe, with something like relatable embarrassment, when said in his own words, those leaked parts sound far less shocking than the media has made them out to sound. And I’m not talking about tabloids, I’m talking about headlines I have seen in passing reading the news. It’s everywhere, of course. But those details are not the important things.
The theme of the book is the loss of his mother and his role as the second son and the enduring effects of each on him. It is truly compassion-inducing and filled me with empathy for him many times. I had no idea of the extent of the power dynamics at play in his family. As an oldest sibling I can all too well understand that strange competitiveness and even insecurity that probably led to a lot of William’s behaviour, and likewise, can only imagine how hard that would be to reconcile in a family without hugs - for each of them. I actually come out of this feeling compassion for almost everyone he writes about, which … makes sense in way.
Because, he sounds kind. He isn’t a snob. He’s an excellent narrator. I imagine all the details the media are fixated on are provided as a way of saying to the reader - here are all my warts, this is it, this is me. It all just seems so very human and for all the privilege he has to apologize for, what sane person would ever want any of it?

Genuine, real, down to earth! Captivating! Couldn’t put it down!
Loved it! Love that Harry shared their experience and raised important awareness about the media! I’m not really a royal watcher but bought it to support their family after hearing briefly about their circumstances. I can only imagine the cost of keeping a family safe, yet being born into a life where you have no choice but to be Royal and in the public eye. To bear the security burdens alone that come with that is astonishing! What a genuine couple!! Truly remarkable hearts with a love for serving others! My kind of people - adding light to the world! The monarchy really did miss out on having such a real, genuine and down to earth couple help change their image in this changing world. Excited for the next book and to hear all the good you are pursuing! Bless your family!

Wow!
I knew it would be an interesting story, but this blew my expectations out of water. Harry was relatable as a human and really was able to explain why things happened the way they did. I had sympathy for him prior to reading this book, but now I see how unbearable his life became. I hope he and his family enjoy their fresh start. This has to be one of the best autobiographies I have ever read.
