Get ready for witches, wolves, magic, and romance - all in Salem!

Raven Bishop doesn't need the help of a man, no matter how hot he is. So when an alluring stranger walks into her magic supply shop, Gemstones, Raven ignores his advice. He might be a police officer, but she knows she can take care of herself.

Sheriff and wolf shifter Zane Cross has one mission: get the Bishop women away from the order of witch hunters. He doesn't have time to deal with his inner wolf howling that they've finally met their mate, especially since the woman in question refuses to follow him to safety. Until she's attacked.

In a secluded cabin, far away from the threat of death, the grumpy sheriff and headstrong witch will have to find common ground in order to survive. Can Raven put her pride aside and let love save the day?

A little cheesy, but not enough to dock a star.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It does toe the line of cheesy at times, especially with some of the author's word choices, but it's not cheesy enough to pull you out of the story, and certainly not enough to lower the rating.

The plot was simple but good. Simple plots lead to a general lack of plot holes, which strengthens any novel, in my opinion. I also have a pretty good knack at predicting plot twists, so my not having to do so in this case made for calm and easy listening.

The male lead (Zane) was perfect in my opinion. He may have been a little too comanding, but he clearly listened to people when they talked to him instead of just plowing right through them (pun intended haha) with his will and opinions. I feel as though as their relationship furthers, he will grow to not be quite so commanding.

The female lead (Raven) was a little insufferable with her stubborness. She was told the same thing SO many times, but keeps fighting against it, amd for what? The reason given, I felt, was a bit of a cop-out (another intended pun, I'm on a roll today!) It almost felt like it was a convenient excuse for someone to make absolutely no sense. I found myself yelling "just give it time! You literally JUST got there" at my phone it irked me so much. I didn't remove stars for this either, however, because I felt it was still a good fault for a character, it just went a little too far in my opinion.

What I did very much enjoy was the relationship between the main characters. It made sense for them to struggle as they navigated the waters between first meeting and further getting to know one another. They clashed but not so much that they hate one another for most of the novel, as many stories tend to do. Their arguments were natural, although I felt a little forced on her end, it was pretty clear that it was her nature to be so bullheaded. Her character just toed the line between what is natirally bullheaded, and her level of stubborness not making any sense what so ever.

Forgive me for being repetitive in this review, I'm trying to leave out spoilers in an attempt to help people find a book to read, without telling them the entire thing in a few paragraphs.

The end was pretty good, there could have been a bit more to the climax (you guessed it, another intended pun!) like more people, more known characters, a break and two climaxes... perhaps a discussion between parties so we know at all why any of this is happening, how they are even there... etc.

I did feel like the end wrapped up a little too quickly. There was so much of a build up to it, and I felt it a little lackluster, but it was fine. I just think if the author had dragged it out a little more, it would not only give the novel a more natural tempo, we could learn more about what is going on. That said, there are other novels. I'll see ya there!

Smut for Smuts Sake

Plot was secondary to smut. If you prefer lesson plot, i think you would love this.

I skip read a bunch of this and still was able to understand the whole book.

Writing is good, and narration was also good.

I personally will not be continuing with this series.

Solid performances, ok story

The overall plot is dull, it really is exactly as the summary states: “locked up in cabin until she falls for him”. There’s not much excitement or mystery as most happens offstage.

Two action scenes, but otherwise pretty straightforward. The main characters are likeable and it’s definitely an easy listen. The performances are solid.

An easy listen for a free story, I am not going to pursue the series further though.

it's okay

have you ever been annoyed so much by an FL? yes i was.
story it's okay there's a lesson you can learn.
plot progress too slow.
naration is being given on a 3rd person point of view at some point. tho voices and emotions are great.

maybe it's just me as i prefer stronger plots.
