Story
When Martin Krause arrives at Rose Owens's high school, she's determined to remain chilly with her new colleague. Unfriendly? Maybe. Understandable? Yes, since a loathsome administrator gave Rose's beloved world history classes to Martin, knowing it would hurt her. But keeping her distance from a man as warm and kind as Martin will prove challenging, even for a stubborn, guarded ice queen. Especially when she begins to see him for what he truly is: a man who's never been taught his own value. Martin could use a good teacher - and luckily, Rose is the best.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases - a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with as well as way less experience in the dating department than the average 30-year-old. It doesn't help that she has Asperger's and that French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. She decides that she needs lots of practice - with a professional - which is why she hires escort Michael Phan.

When Reggie Johnson answers a job ad in the paper, she’s astonished to find that she’s not applying to work at her favorite card game, Spellcraft: The Magicking. Instead, she’s applying to be an actual familiar for an actual witch. As in, real magic. The new job has a few perks—great room and board, excellent pay, and she's apprenticing to a powerful witch. Sure, the witch is a bit eccentric. And sure, there was that issue with the black cat Reggie would prefer to forget about. The biggest problem, however, is warlock Ben Magnus.

PhD candidate Phoebe Walsh has always been obsessed with true crime. She's even analyzing the genre in her dissertation—if she can manage to finish writing it. It's hard to find the time while she spends the summer in Florida, cleaning out her childhood home, dealing with her obnoxiously good-natured younger brother, and grappling with the complicated feelings of mourning a father she hadn't had a relationship with for years.

Publisher's Summary
National Best Seller
Olivia Dade bursts onto the scene in this delightfully fun romantic comedy set in the world of fanfiction, in which a devoted fan goes on an unexpected date with her celebrity crush, who’s secretly posting fanfiction of his own.
Marcus Caster-Rupp has a secret. The world may know him as Aeneas, star of the biggest show on television, but fanfiction readers call him something else: Book!AeneasWouldNever. Marcus gets out his frustrations with the show through anonymous stories about the internet’s favorite couple, Aeneas and Lavinia. But if anyone discovered his online persona, he’d be finished in Hollywood.
April Whittier has secrets of her own. A hardcore Lavinia fan, she’s long hidden her fanfic and cosplay hobbies from her “real life” - but not anymore. When she dares to post her latest costume creation on Twitter, her plus-size take goes viral. And when Marcus asks her out to spite her internet critics, truth officially becomes stranger than fanfiction.
On their date, Marcus quickly realizes he wants more from April than a one-time publicity stunt. But when he discovers she’s Unapologetic Lavinia Stan, his closest fandom friend, he has one more huge secret to keep from her.
With love and Marcus’ career on the line, can the two of them stop hiding once and for all, or will a match made in fandom end up prematurely cancelled?

Cute and sexy
So I thought it started off a bit all over. But as the story went on it turned into and up and down romcom and you kind of knew where it was going. I loved it though. Super adorable yet with a ton of sexy going on. Also if you watched game of thrones it had that kind of set vibe haha

Body Positive Romance
Romance that also explores fandom culture, fanfiction, online friends, maybe online friends to lovers, toxic families, body shaming, and (and this becomes a fascinating aspect) late diagnosed dyslexia. Plus lots of smut (steamy, fun smut) .
I think I would have enjoyed it more if I was into Game of Thrones which is clearly the fandom that novel's "the God the Gates" fiction is based on.
It does read like fanfiction though. Not a deficiency, I found it quite fun.

So GOOD!
I completely loved this book. The couple was sweet, smart and so adorable together. This book is steamy so don’t make my mistake and listen with kids around! LOL.
Also: the guy that wrote the one star review was completely wrong. The kind of childhood trauma each MC went through is HARD to get past, it leaves scars. The author handled this with sensitivity and intelligence. At no time did I feel that the characters were sliding into woe is me. So I’m not sure what book that guy listened to, but it wasn’t this one.

Not my cup of tea
Could not finish it. Did not like how the story was going. I was not fond of the smut, I thought it woukd have been more of a romance than erotic. It is not that I usually mind it but when it turns out to be on every other page I get tired of it. It annoys me to keep having to skip over parts to avoid it and since it seems to happen every 10 mins I feel like I wasted my money.

Not what I expected
I went into this book thinking it was going to be a cliche story line with the handsome guy rescuing and falling in love with the plus size girl. However, as much as this was part of the story it wasn't the main point. The main characters had depth and they felt real. The hero wasn't some macho male but rather human and beautiful. The heroine was kickass and also vulnerable and beautiful. This was a great read. The narrator did a great job too.

loved it. when the female protagonist is a large girl who learns to love herself as she is and to not accept being loved conditionally. it was so sweet. a fan dream in the making. writing fanfiction and meeting the actors of your OTP. the story mixes and exposes Fandom and the toxicity that can exist in there as well as the well meaning toxic families we may possess.

Kind of a dud
I really appreciate this story being centered in fandom, and there were good parts, but overall it was kind of a dud. My main gripe is both main characters are not emotionally competent at all, literally in their mid /late thirties and they seem like teenagers in their thought processes. All the inner monologues got so annoying and eye roll inducing.

it may be a bit predictable but it is funny as hell! finally a plus size heroin that is not overconfident and not to self-deprecating. I also really like the character development of the leading man. not to mention the steamy scenes were great!

Don’t bother
I only finished this book so that I could say with certainty that it was bad all the way through.
There was some character development for Marcus but April showed no change at all.
Representation of all body types is much needed and appreciated but when it is one of the only plot points and it is not well explained, it gets old by the end of the book.
Why was she “fat” (authors words)? Was it over eating due to depression or lack of self control or was it genetic or medically related? What was her relationship with her body like when she was younger and how did she get to where she is now?
These are all questions that could have added so much more depth to the character and why she reacts as she does when her body is made the topic of discussion.
The same goes for the parental relationships with both parents. We are given some back story but in April’s case there is very little and it is not explained how seeing her mother treated poorly by her father affected the way she saw her own body. It’s implied but it could have been delved into or even mentioned.
And Marcus gives much more insight into his feelings towards his parents actions but I have a very hard time believing that a parent who is a teacher leaving her career to homeschool her child doesn’t see that her child is disabled.
I don’t want to say too much else with out giving it all away but just don’t waste your time on it.
