Story
For myself and Lauren, my 10-year-old daughter No 3 Beech Close was to be our refuge after two years of hell nursing my sick mother. In need of a fresh start and wanting to distance ourselves from the bad memories of my mother’s house we moved to Beech Close, a small cul-de-sac of six houses situated around a picture-perfect green. It seemed perfect but I had underestimated the secrets that this tightknit community shared. Within hours of moving in my next-door neighbour Valerie made it abundantly clear we were not welcome.

Story
The day my path crossed with Simon Fox I thought I’d already lost everything, but then he almost ran me off the road with his flash car and belittling jibes. The men in my life had undermined me for too long. Enough was enough. Fuelled by alcohol and the desire to get even, I decided a spot of petty vandalism would make me feel a whole lot better. Wrong. Very wrong. I hadn’t realised that Simon Fox was not a man to be messed with.

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

For 15 years, Lexi and Jake have played the same six numbers with their friends. Over drinks, dinner parties and summer barbecues, the three couples have discussed the important stuff — kids, marriages, careers — and they’ve laughed off their disappointment when they failed to win anything.

Publisher's Summary
When the hunter becomes the hunted…
Perfect for fans of Liane Moriarty, Shari Lapena and Lisa Jewell.
It was eight o’clock on a Sunday morning when I was attacked.
He burst into my life, turning my world upside down.
He took everything he wanted and left me broken.
Now the police can’t find him.
They have no idea who he is or what he’s capable of.
But I do.
I know just how dangerous he is and if they can’t stop him before he hurts someone else, then I will.
What the critics say
"A brilliant thriller from an exciting new voice. Stalker had me on the edge of my seat." (Kerry Barnes)
"An atmospheric, taut thriller which keeps you hooked from the first page. An exceptional debut." (Jacqui Rose)

Gemma Rogers's Best Work (?)
This story starts as a well-written & engrossing (albeit relatively routine) examination of a woman's journey towards closure after a rape.. but quickly evolves into a somewhat unhinged search for righteous justice and a first-rate exploration of the hypothetical effects of trauma. From the brutal crime itself - to the disappointing police/legal system investigation - to Eve Harding's lifelike efforts at recovery (coping at work & with family/friends, medical/psychiatric interventions, self-defense training, etc), the chronicle starts incredibly gritty and feels authentic.. then morphs into a somewhat silly but surprisingly gripping Thriller.
Having read a number of this author's books - and taking into consideration an unusual non-linear storytelling technique - I have to admit that I am more impressed with Rogers than I had been in the past.
For example: I have noted that many of her central characters are frustratingly unrealistic - detracting from the enjoyability of her stories.. but that is not the case with 'Eve'. Her journey is so believable that I found myself rooting for her.. and her unusual transformation into a vigilante of sorts felt organic.
The narration from Georgia Maguire undoubtedly helps elevate the book, as well (she is once again exceedingly impressive - she was a brilliant casting choice to relate Rogers's stories). Maguire's diction, timbre, cadence, and rate of reading are typically commendable.. but her emotiveness and voice-acting are particularly praiseworthy on this project.
As the strongest of the Gemma Rogers audiobooks that I have encountered, I rate 'Stalker' a solid 9 stars out of 10. Don't get me wrong.. it's far from perfect (with a disappointingly straightforward plot resolution, for example), but I feel very fortunate to have gotten this book as a 'Plus' selection - free with my subscription - because I likely wouldn't have tried it otherwise. Even if they ask for a Credit, this Psychological Suspense offering is worth it.

Intriguing
I enjoyed how the story was told from different perspectives. The narrator did an excellent job presenting each one differently. Loved it. I listened while going to sleep and had to go back a bit each night so I didn’t miss anything!

My first Gemma Rodgers book and what a thrilling writer. Beautifully narrated by Georgia Maguire. What a beautiful combination!!!
With a great story in an audible, the narrator pulls you into the plot. This narrators voice was amazing and you had to keep listening.
What a suspenseful book and so well written. Very much looking forward to more books by this author. Most definitely a name to add to my Favourites..
