Publisher's Summary

From New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore comes a new trilogy and adventure of Drizzt and fantasy’s beloved characters from Dungeons & Dragons’ Forgotten Realms.

After the settling dust of the demon uprising and two years of peace, rumblings from the Menzoberranzan drow have Jarlaxle nervous. Worried his allies may be pulled into a Civil War between the great Houses, he is eager to ensure Zaknafein is armed with weapons befitting his skill, including one in particular: Khazid’hea. A powerful artifact, the sword known as “Cutter” has started wars, corrupted its users, and spilled the blood of many, many people. Nonetheless - or maybe because of that - the rogue Jarlaxle and a small group of friends will go on an expedition looking for the weapon’s last wielder, Doum’wielle, in the freezing north, for she may be the key to unlocking the sword’s potential...and perhaps the key to preventing the bloodshed looming over the Underdark.

And as they explore the top of the world, Drizzt is on a journey of his own - both spiritual and physical. He wants to introduce his daughter Brie to Grandmaster Kane and the practices that have been so central to his beliefs. But, having only recently come back from true transcendence, the drow ranger is no longer sure what his beliefs mean anymore. He is on a path to determining the future, not just for his family, but perhaps the entire northlands of the Realms themselves.

Two different roads. On one, Jarlaxle and Zaknefein are on a quest to find pieces that could offer salvation to Menzoberranzan. On the other, Drizzt seeks answers that could offer salvation to not just his soul, but all souls.

And no matter the outcome of either journey, the Realms will never be the same again.

Kind of meh

Felt like more of a forced story about a place I didn't care about to rescue someone I never liked, meanwhile let's spend half the book talking about a sport.

Things are building

Well dictated. Seems like another book setting up future stories while tying up loose ends. Overall I enjoyed it

Why is this sooooo boring?…

R.A Salvatore is always hit and miss.
Great at creating characters. But creating a storyline is usually his bane. He doesn’t know how to finish books, which is probably why the Drizzt series is over 35 books long. I love them. But this book…. So so droll. Half seem to be Drizzt’s musings, which in his other novels are only a page and a half journal entry ones, which I skip.
Drizzt is now torn between philosophies, but stands nowhere, making him soooooo boring.
Half way through this book, and nothing has happened. Might be the first Drizzt novel I won’t be able to finish.

A story of beginnings...

This story is for the fans; this is a story of new ways and won't have any bearing on those who don't know the Drow. Those who do know will find this enthralling; beware there are many new terms and new customs in this tale, this is for explorers.

Great story, narrator drives me b a n a n a s!

I love the Saga of Drizzt.
Jarlaxle and Zaknafien always boost any story about the Companions of the hall.
Bade is pronounced "Bay-d"
Bade is not pronounced "Bad".
Bade is the past tense of Bidden.
Bad is the opposite if good.

The narration pronouncing Bade as Bad is driving me bananas.

B A N A N A S!

It's been coming to this

A great story with much of what's been hinted at for many years finally coming to fruition.
