Publisher's Summary
Years ago, an overachieving and harried young mother accidentally flushed her gold watch down the toilet. Time passed, but the image of the lost watch continued to haunt her, a symbol of an overcommitted life. Two decades later, propelled by a series of curious coincidences, she leaves behind her busy professional life, her cell phone, and her family to escape the tyranny of time and walk 500 miles across Northern Spain to Santiago de Compostela.
Steps out of Time brings the mysterious and wonderful world of the Camino to life with its tales of serendipitous encounters, new friends made (and one tragically lost), stunning natural beauty, and unforgettable food. By the end of her journey, an exhausted and exhilarated Katharine Soper is keenly aware she has completed much more than a monthlong walk.

Inspiring
This book won a silver medal in the 2014 Independent Publisher Book Competition and an Honorable Mention in the 2014 Writer’s Digest Self-Published Award Program. The story is about a woman’s journey walking the Santiago de Compostela.
I was surprised that I enjoyed the book far more than I had expected to considering the subject. The book is well written. It is a memoir of her journey using her diary as a resource. She writes it like a travelogue and includes the history of the area. Soper also turned her trip into an epicurean delight with the description of all the food she ate. She appeared most interested in the people she met along the way. She also includes some of her reflections and inner thoughts. I was impressed that she could speak French and adequate Spanish. I am sure that made the journey easier. This is my first book about this subject. I found it interesting. I might have liked to walked it when I was young.
The author has an interesting background. She was a French instructor and now is an attorney practicing in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She has worked in Alaska and taught English in Bogota, Colombia. She walked Camino-France from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain. In 2017 she walked the Camino Portuguese from Lisbon to Santiago, Spain. Maybe she will write a book about that trip.
. The book is twelve hours and twenty-three minutes. Donna Postel does a good job narrating the book. Postel is a long-time voice-over artist and audiobook narrator.

A wonderful story
I only chose this book because I'm a big fan of Donna Postel but have now become a fan of the author. My brother walked the Camino in 2015 with his son after watching the movie The Way staring Michael Douglas. Donna did a fantastic job bringing the characters to life. The food in the story sounded amazing and left me hungry for some good authentic home cooked food. I'll never be able to walk the Camino but I've found an app called World of Walking that has the way of St James that I turn my treadmill into the way. This story is totally worth the credit. Happy listening 🎧

Enjoyed this book very much!
I really enjoyed this book and the story it told. The author’s tale of her pilgrimage on The Camino de Santiago has enticed me to dream of going one day myself. I recommend this book to those wondering what life on this particular pilgrimage is like. She has a firm hold on describing every aspect.

Excellent Story
Not just a narrative of walking the Camino but beautiful insights into the lessons of the trip. I also enjoyed the tone of the reader's voice.

im glad I finished the listen
but I almost quit the book in the first chapter. it was annoying to listen to the litany of insecurity based complaints the book starts with and really, continues through most of the story. it wasn't until near the end I realized the story events happened in 2002 and that context made a little more sense given the nature of what the author was so negatively focused on. it also makes the focus rather dated though. Truly the epilogue brings the realization that there was purpose in the (if awfully tedious) repetitive dwelling on the author's many worries and insecurities. I think I would have been able to enjoy the book more if there head a been a different narrator. the deadpan, flat voice and odd, distracting way the narrator repetively paused mid sentence, mid thought was unpleasant and detracted from the story that was being told. Or, I should say the story being read because no matter the feeling being conveyed, the inflection remained flat and without emotion.

A Decent Camino Story
I enjoyed this book better every time I fast-forwarded through it’s feminist rants. Despite the focus on negative events in the Camino experience (which I have walked 4 times), this is a decent book.

So close
I enjoyed reading this book, although I found myself struggling with the author's perspective on the world. While her second perspective was intriguing, her first perspective was consistently negative. It seemed like she often viewed things with a glass-half-empty mentality.
