Publisher's Summary

From Hugo and Dragon Award finalist David VanDyke, and millions-selling science-fiction legend and Dragon finalist B.V. Larson, comes book five in the epic military space opera adventure saga!

It’s been five years since the end of the Hive Wars. Straker has handed over the burden of governing the Earthan Republic to civil authorities.

This should be a happy time, as Straker and his most loyal soldiers retire to a planet and step off the galactic stage. Unfortunately, authoritarian forces within the Earthan Republic are still simmering with rage at his victory. Rumors reach Straker of a growing new Republic Fleet manned by state loyalists. Planets begin to fall under their influence and go dark. Even in retirement, they see Straker’s Breakers as a threat.

Fearing he may have to move again in the name of freedom and the people, Straker begins to train and plan. Will they dare to come for him? His battlesuiters have formed families and planted roots on Culloden. What of their children and stories of neighboring worlds reverting to dictatorships?

Straker’s Breakers prepare to fight again, alone and without support, in this new novel of military science fiction by David VanDyke and B. V. Larson.

This is the fifth book in the Galactic Liberation series. Look for book number one, Starship Liberator, if you’re new to this expanding universe.

The weakest book in the series

Felt like a placeholder book. Didn’t like the mission. The characters felt rehashed. Hope the next book picks up the pace and storytelling

Too much politics

This book seemed like it was trying to re-start a series that had already been successfully concluded. Not all that much happened and most of the situations seemed contrived. In the end the political situation that developed seemed dry and implied more dry politics in future volumes. Not one I'm likely to continue with.

I like this more than I thought I would

I really likes this despite having slightly mixed feelings.
I both feel it is starting to look like one of those TV shows that should have ended by now, but at the same time I get those reminiscent feelings from role playing games back in the day I. having finished one campaign and just about to embark on another perhaps even more exciting one.

Writing felt phoned in

I have nearly all of b v Larson's books on audio and I enjoyed nearly every bit of all the books. with that said I must say, this book felt like listening to a prequel. that's fine when a story is just getting started, or an author wants to flesh out the beginnings of a a series they may already be part way through.

this felt like a prequel of a spin off series and I felt like it was possibly the end of the series the way this book ended.

there wasn't much story development, nothing of too much importance happened outside of the fact they moved to a new world (system or whatever). none of the fighting mattered much, very little character development, and only a modicum of the story progressed.

I feel as though huge sections of the book could be chopped out, summarized, or changed to actually make huge swaths of the book matter to the story. all you really need is to listen to the beginnings, about 30 or 45 minutes of select pieces of the middle, and the last 15 minutes of the book and still carry on with the next book without missing much (if anything).

Forced Effort

I like this series, this book felt disjointed and forced. I wish this would have been refined more or even split into another story line. it seems like this book was the conglomeration of two stories that collided into one.

I am perplexed and confused

The first 4 books of the series were all quite good. This book didn’t go as downhills as the Undying Mercenaries but came close. Entire sections of plot had not relevance to an overall narrative. Too many enemies and changed objectives. I find it hard to fathom how all the work freeing humankind was undone in 5 years as well. This could have been so much better.

Virtual signaling, cliches, and PC hurt the story.

"And they all lived happily ever after" - story drags - few new ideas presented and the two central characters are insufferable bores...wish I'd not started this series...expect better from Larson.

Great refresh of the series

I really enjoyed this one, it takes all the characters we know and love from the previous series and puts them in a whole new scenario. I'm looking forward to getting the rest of these as they come out.
