Publisher's Summary
Down in Whynot, NC, there are three things that hold true: one, life moves just a little bit slower; two, family means everything; and three, you don’t mess with history.
When his family decides to sell a home that’s been part of their history for more than a century, Lowe Mancinkus is madder than a hornet. To add insult to injury, the woman who purchased it is some fancy-pants city girl looking to fix it up and sell it off. Doesn’t matter that she’s sexy as hell or that just being near her gets his blood racing like never before. That home belongs to his family, or at least it did until she came to town.
Well that just won’t do, now will it?
From the moment that she laid eyes on the historical home in rural North Carolina, Melinda Rothschild knew Mainer House was something special. The perfect escape from life in New York City, Melinda signed the papers and set to work restoring the house to its natural beauty. That is until an angry Lowe showed up on her doorstep one day - with a scowl on his handsome, chiseled face and a shotgun in his strong, muscular arms.
Is it getting hot in here?
Melinda’s about to get a lesson on life in the South, but Lowe is about to learn a lesson of his own - this city girl doesn’t back down from a fight.

anybody who tries to make light of the Confederate
anybody who tries to tell me that a different version of the Confederate flag story can basically kiss my ass I really did like this out there until I heard that part and now I'm just like damn skip skip skip let me get to the end of this f****** story I am so tired of white people trying to downplay what black people went through a black people's feelings and I'm very very over that

Stephanie Rose ruined the BOOK!!! Again
Why does Audible continue to let her narrate any books! She has ruined so many books I’ve tried to listen to and if it wasn’t free I would have returned it. The other narrators are amazing.

Yikes
The performance were good. It is a shame the story had supposedly ‘enlightened’ characters spouting some decidedly unenlightened views.
There were some things throughout that gave me pause, a comment from the lead female to her gay BFF saying his flamboyant dress was not “normal” and slut-shaming comments by her and other characters. But I stuck it out. Then with a little over an hour remaining, the lead male dared to try to tell a Black gay character that the Confederate flag did not represent racism or hate, and he knew the real story because he was a History major, and I had to quit. It is bad enough trying to pass off historically inaccurate information, but to do so using a Black LGBTQ+ character who then responds with a “thank you for educating me” reaction is beyond the pale.

I had a goofy grin listening to this book.
Obviously different but this has a Hope Floats feel to it. (The movie) This was definitely funny and light hearted which I needed. After some serious and sad books I needed something like this. I want to be friends with these people!

Wonderfully funny 😄
Made me laugh so hard. My kids thought I was nuts. I really enjoy Sawyer Bennett books so I figured that I would give her pen name (Juliette Poe) a try. Some of the shenanigans that went on in this story were a great laugh.

this one was funny as all get out!
We got a preview to the feud between Lowe Mancinkus and Melinda Rothschild in book 1...Melinda purchased the Mainer House (Lowe's ancestry home) and Lowe was not happy. He proceeded to board up the house and 'defended' it with a shotgun...then he painted the shutters bright pink, when he was court ordered to remove the boards and paint the house. The pair end up, again, in front of Judge Bowman, who has had enough! Lowe is ordered to renovate the house for 200 hrs, and Melinda is supposed to track his hours. The shenanigans do not stop there...throw in a self-appointed town protector, who gossips as much as a girl, and this book will have you in stitches! I love this couple, and of course, Lowe's grandfather-Pap. Time to move on to the rest of the series!
