Publisher's Summary

Nominated, 2019 Audie Awards - Best Male Narrator

Meet Threadbare. He is 12 inches tall, full of fluff, and really, really bad at being a hero.

Magically animated and discarded by his maker as a failed experiment, he is saved by a little girl. But she's got problems of her own, and he might not be able to help her.

Fortunately for the little golem, he's quick to find allies, learn skills, gain levels, and survive horrible predicaments. Which is good, because his creator has a whole lot of enemies …

Warning: Contains profanity and violence.

Had me laughing more than once.

Great narration and for a great story. This is not a childrens story despite the teddy bear main character. It has whimsy, the odd f-bomb, and the characters are unique and worth meeting.

marked as a favourite

This was so much fun, that I plan to listen again and again. I have very few favourites but this is definitely one that I plan to enjoy more than once. It rates as a modern fairy tale for grown ups that is chock full of puns, my favourite form of humour, and enough intrigue to keep you hanging on to see what happens next. there are lots of allusions to other books and genres so that you feel you're being included in the inside joke.
I can't recommend it highly enough.

Love it!

I loved this book. I'm going to continue the series. I highly recommend it. But whoever said it was like Tolkien is an idiot and clearly hasn't read Tolkien.

Tim Gerard Reynolds is a legend.

How is it so cute for an adventure story?!

The author of this story is amazing! I could really picture everything and I couldn't wait to hear what was happening next. It was so good that Ive started to listen to it again with my husband and kids. I love the idea behind the story and just superb writing and characters.

Whoever is reading the story did extremely well with the different voices too, really helped you be able to tell all the characters apart and right from the beginning it reels you in.

A polite, loving teddy bear fights monsters

Honestly I was expecting more of the same old heroes journey adventure with a teddy bear. The teddy bear kicks all kinds of monsters booty, and remains a caring loving teddy bear. The story remains grounded in it's own rules, and shows great promise. It does not end up anywhere near where I thought it would end.

Delightful Listen

if you fell into your RPG this is the story you'd want. The teddybear, the little girl, things hidden and things revealed. I am going to level up and go on to the next book in the series.
