When a fellow US Marshal asks Anita Blake to fly to a tiny community in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on an emergency consult, she knows time is running short. Reminds me of good old Anita Blake novels with a mystery, some action and not just relationship drama ( though you still get some of that). Enjoyed it thoroughly mostly because of the amazing narration by Kimberly Alexis.

Overall this book reminded me of the first novels in a Anita Blake series. I'm happy this book was mostly about work and less of the metaphysics. Happy to see the growth in Anita and to possibly see a career change and children in her future.

Older and Smarter

This latest edition to the series feels like a return to the original books. Well paced. Focused on the story. Character development is a part of the story, but not the sole focus. Overall, I enjoyed it more than the last several books in the series.
