About this listen

The phenomenal fifth book in the Hunger Games series!

Acclaimed actor Jefferson White, who starred in Paramount Network's Yellowstone as Jimmy Hurdstrom, brings his talent to the worldwide best-selling Hunger Games series as narrator of the Sunrise on the Reaping audiobook!

When you've been set up

to lose everything you love,

what is there left to fight for?

As the day dawns on the fiftieth annual Hunger Games, fear grips the districts of Panem. This year, in honor of the Quarter Quell, twice as many tributes will be taken from their homes.

Back in District 12, Haymitch Abernathy is trying not to think too hard about his chances. All he cares about is making it through the day and being with the girl he loves.

When Haymitch's name is called, he can feel all his dreams break. He's torn from his family and his love, shuttled to the Capitol with the three other District 12 tributes: a young friend who's nearly a sister to him, a compulsive oddsmaker, and the most stuck-up girl in town. As the Games begin, Haymitch understands he's been set up to fail. But there's something in him that wants to fight . . . and have that fight reverberate far beyond the deadly arena.

This book was truly beautiful its point is clear and sends a message. It fills in gaps from the other hunger games and fills in details that make so much sense looking back.

Beautiful

To say this book packs a punch, is an understatement. It left me shocked and thinking of Haymitch for days. I couldn’t recommend it more, just read the main series first.

This book is everything a HungerGames fan is looking for! Excellent story and narration. There are a few audio mistakes though. You hear the narrator say audio directions in a few spots, I noticed it in chapter 8, maybe it can be fixed.

Amazing!

At 23:35 in chapter 11 there is a repeated line that I feel like isn’t supposed to be repeated.

possibly my second favourite Hunger Games instalment (my favourite being Catching Fire).

Prequels generally suck, but this one brought a lot of new things to the table and satisfies a lot of questions regarding Capitol propaganda, mystery surrounding Haymitch, and earlier attempts at stopping the Games.

I don’t want to go into too much as this is an early review, so I don’t want to give away or allude to the best points of the novel.

I’ll be rereading again to savour this very soon.

eerie. haunting. poignant.

The narrator does an excellent job of portraying Hamitch. The story is impeccable; it tears your heart to pieces and compels you to stay until the bitter end. It is a beautiful and horrific story. No matter how many times I broke down sobbing, I could not put it down. Everything about this story feels particularly relevant given current events. The suffering and collective punishment borne out on children to deter future dissidence, and how it inevitably turns innocents into rebels, mirrors the reality in Gaza today. May all oppressed people find peace in the old there before, and may all oppressive regimes fall like the Capital.

Heartbreaking in the best way
