Author William Alexander sets a fast pace, and Dorcus smoothly keeps up, applying various Earth accents to the people the NEEDLE encounters in the solar system. Crucially, Dorcus invests each of Tova’s fostered bots with vocal personalities as distinct as their names: Cosmas, Torque, Halley, and Agatha Panza von Sparkles. Sunward is a rather curious mixture of the large and dramatic together with the intimate and familial. On the whole it works, without quite fitting any expectations.

There's a lot that isn't fully developed, both in the characters and world, but not to the detriment of the story.

Overall the story compresses the scales of the world-spanning and the personal in a way that is unusual but surprisingly successful. Well worth the listen.
