My Gosh, You Need to Read this Book

Marissa Meyer has once again delivered a breathtaking series. I loved Renegades from the start but this book was something else. I was repeatedly shocked (in a good way) and the twists and turns of this masterful plot were so surprising I literally gasped aloud at multiple points! I felt for the characters as they went through heartbreak, betrayal, and happiness. Rebecca Solaire is a master reader and makes you feel like the characters are actually talking and not just her reading from the book (I also love that she does some sound effects). Took me a bit to warm up to the guy who reads Adrian’s chapters but eventually I appreciated how he read, too.

I would 100% recommend this book to anyone with a love of superhero’s or someone who just wants an action packed book to read. It’s so rare to get a book that crosses all the boxes of good plot, good characters, lots of action, and makes you feel for the characters and this book checks them all.

The only complaint I have about the book is the epilogue. It’s slightly confused me and made me wonder if they were supposed to be another book but other than that the book is amazing.

SPOILERS! Because I have to talk about the parts that make me gasp and stand at the tips of my toes

- When we found out Adrian actually created Phobia! Woah
- The final battle..just..the entire battle was epic
- Magpie is actually Evie?! Good lord I want another book to just explain that

I’m now going to go into a book slump because nothing is going to be good after this epic book

Great series!

I started this series 2 years ago when it first came out and it’s been a joy to finally finish it. This series had both a great story line and a satisfying ending. It’s refreshing to find a book like that; I’ve been burned by too many series cratering in the final book (cough cough divergent). I enjoyed this an adult but I think this would also be a great read for 6-12th graders.

Ehhh

In some ways I liked it, but the ending left me wondering if another book will come out. I felt like the truth about Adrian and nova was pushed to the very end and then rushed which was annoying.

Amazing Ending!

This is a perfect ending to an awesome trilogy. I finished this book super quick because I never wanted to put it down! These readers along with this author are an amazing combination.

Heck yes! spoilers

Well, that was a an awesomely dark conclusion. You can definitely tell Marissa Meyer's been influenced by the current political/ cultural climate in the US. I'm so glad the final battle scene was epically detailed. When the epilogue started I couldn't understand why the narrator was so bitter again, and then I realized it was Magpie. And THEN I realized it was Evie! Meyer's definitely left this open for a spin-off series or graphic novel. I love Rebecca Soler and Dan Bittner's performances, though I wish the director/ producer would have conferenced with the narrator's to keep a more cohesive voicing between characters.

Again, too much minutiae

The fat really needed to be trimmed in this one. Again. Meyer has her characters talk around and around and around and then they get to the point. When you feel a scene is dragging on (it happens a lot) don’t be afraid to skip ahead a couple of minutes. You likely won’t have missed anything.

Which is quite disappointing. I think this is otherwise a very good book. The author just needed to stop padding the scenes with unnecessary words.

As always, the narrators are very good. They both make the characters come alive.

Solid trilogy

It was geared more towards teenagers, but I still thought it was a solid trilogy.

really fun world building

pretty good series. well paced. lots of high stakes. lots of threads that come together at the end. Just wanted a tiny bit more character development, especially toward the end when the main character had to choose sides. Felt a little like shortcutting. But overall a great YA.

LOVE THIS SERIES

The book was amazing but at one point the make narrator did the wrong voices for 2 of his characters, it didn't hinder the story but it was distracting. I do love that all of the characters are so distinct that I can tell which character is talking just by listening. not all narrators are that good
