Story
Eve has seen this crime scene before: the artfully arranged body of a young brunette, arms spread, palms up, body marked by the signs of prolonged and painful torture. Carved into her torso is the time it took her to die - in hours, minutes, and seconds. And on the third finger of her left hand has been placed a silver ring.

Story
The death of history teacher Craig Foster devastated his young wife, who'd sent him off to work that morning with a lovingly packed lunch. It shocked his colleagues at the Upper West Side private school. And as for the 10-year-old girls who found him in his classroom in a pool of bodily fluids, they may have been traumatized for life. Lieutenant Eve Dallas, of course, is more hardened to murder cases. And this is clearly a murder case.

Story
After a tip from a reporter, Eve Dallas finds the body of a young woman in a Delancey Street dumpster. Just hours before, the news station had mysteriously received a portfolio of professional portraits of the woman. The photos seemed to be nothing out of the ordinary for any pretty young woman starting a modeling career. Except that she wasn't a model. And that these photos were taken after she had been murdered. Now Dallas is on the trail of a killer who's a perfectionist and an artist. He carefully observes and records his victim's every move.

Story
Louie Cogburn had spent three days holed up in his apartment, staring at his computer screen. His pounding headache was unbearable - like spikes drilling into his brain. And it was getting worse. Finally, when someone knocked at his door, Louie picked up a baseball bat, opened the door, and started swinging... The first cop on the scene fired his stunner twice and Louie died instantly. Detective Eve Dallas has taken over the investigation, but there's nothing to explain the man's sudden rage or death.

Story
Dante had been courting his victim in cyberspace for weeks before meeting her in person. A few sips of wine and a few hours later, she was dead. The murder weapon: a rare, usually undetectable date-rape drug with a street value of a quarter million dollars. Detective Eve Dallas is playing and replaying the clues in her mind. The candlelight, the music, the rose petals strewn across the bed - a seduction meant for his benefit, not hers. He hadn't intended to kill her. But now that he has, he is left with only two choices: to either hole up in fear and guilt or start hunting again....
Publisher's Summary
Now Nixie Swisher is an orphan - and the sole eyewitness to a seemingly inexplicable crime. Kids are not Dallas' strong suit. But Nixie needs a safe place to stay, and Dallas needs to solve this case. Not only because of the promise she made to Nixie. Not only for the cause of justice. But also to put to rest some of her own darkest memories - and deepest fears. With her partner Peabody on the job, and watching her back - and with Roarke providing the kind of help only he can give - Lieutenant Eve Dallas is running after shadows, and dead-set on finding out who's behind them.

Rocks!
I think this is one of my favorites from the In Death Series. I really like Norah Roberts and when I read everything possible by Norah Roberts I decided to try JD Robb because I am huge fan of her other books. I had never listened to audio-books but these are highly addicting. Susan Ericksen does a really entertaining job with the narrating. I tried to read one of these books and stopped after 2 chapters to go fine the audio-book so I could get the feeling back in the characters. I think Lieutenant Dallas, Eve is absolutely wonderful and who wouldn't love sexy Roarke. The picture I have in my head when Roberts describe him sizzles, especially with there chemistry. I can't wait till October for the next one to be available. I sometimes wish Peabody didn't sound so weird but I guess you can only do so many female voices. I think this whole series rocks.

J D Robb gives us a Gem of a story.
What made the experience of listening to Survivor in Death the most enjoyable?
The Inclusion of a young child as a main character made this really enjoyable. Eve is always so hesitant in her dealings with children, so to have a plot where Eve and Roarke are in such close proximity to this character is brilliant.
What other book might you compare Survivor in Death to and why?
I don't like comparing books with others, each is separate from the other.
To make an attempt at similar types, though, perhaps Tami Hoag books could be of similar type. Readers could also try Kate Kingsbury, Ann Charles, Elizabeth Lowell is another favourite and there are others to be found.
Also it might be pertinent to write that J D Robb is actually Nora Roberts (for those who don't know) and Nora has written some really good mysteries under her own name, i.e., Angels Fall, Sanctuary, Hot Rocks and others. These are good reading as well. Don't know if they are all available as audio but some are.
Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen – was your favorite?
Nixie Swisher the little girl who plays such a large part in the novel. I think she was performed really well and drawn as a character really well, too.

CAPTIVATING! I thought EVE may even meet her match
Story is very addicting and I wanted to growl at some of the parts for a character or two.... I mean who could accept and live thru such a beating? Find out! This was/is, thus far, one of the best .... :)

Plenty of missing lines
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Narrator skips paragraphs, sentences. Need to fix that.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Plot was great
How could the performance have been better?

Great Interaction
Another great installment in the series! I especially love the interaction with the side characters, and Eve's reaction to having a kid! Being a mother myself, the way she treats the young girl is both horrifying and hilarious and so in-character for Eve.
Really shows that Eve and Roarke aren't quite ready to have kids of their own yet.

A Diamond in the Series
If you could sum up Survivor in Death in three words, what would they be?
Thrilling, Realistic, Emotional
What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?
She's amazing. She has a different voice for each character and I can't imagine anyone else reading these.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The description of the girl witnessing the murders was tough to get through. It brought tears to my eyes several times.
