Publisher's Summary

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Jana DeLeon, the third book in the Miss Fortune Mystery series.

When only a crack shot will do....

In the two weeks CIA assassin Fortune Redding has been hiding in Sinful, Louisiana, she's been harassed, poisoned, and shot at...and that was the easy part. But now she's about to face her biggest challenge since setting foot in the tiny bayou town.

When mayoral candidate Ted Williams is murdered, everyone is surprised. Ted was a blowhole and a Yankee, but those usually weren't good reasons to kill someone. When Sinful Ladies Society leader Ida Belle becomes the lead suspect in the crime, Fortune knows she's got to solve a murder and save one of the only friends she's ever had. But as the investigation begins, more and more secrets surface, and Fortune realizes that sometimes nothing is as it seems.

Careful When Drinking

It isn't always easy to read these books and drink anything at the same time. There is a very real danger of spitting your beverage out as you burst into laughter.

A fun listen with laugh-out-loud moments

This is the third book in the Miss Fortune series and it picks up where the last book left off.
What a busy little bayou town Sinful Louisiana is! Always a murder or crime to be investigated and CIA assassin-in-hiding Fortune Redding uses her formidable skills in solving the mysteries. Fortune is ably assisted - or hindered - by the two elderly Sinful ladies, Ida Belle and Gertie, much to the dismay of police deputy Carter who believes Fortune is the mild librarian she's posing as. Of course, Ida Belle and Gertie have skills beyond knitting and baking cookies.
An election for mayor between Ida Belle and a little-known northerner Ted Williams becomes pretty complicated when Ted is murdered and the chief suspect is his opponent, Ida Belle! It's up to Fortune, Gertie, and the ladies of Sinful to solve Ted's murder and prove Ida Belle's innocence and so the fun begins.

A fun book to listen to.

Jana DeLeon is a new author for me and for that matter so is the narrator Cassandra Campbell. I seemed to have dove into this series in book three. The protagonist, Fortune Redding, is a CIA assassin with a price on her head. The agency has her stashed in Sinful, Louisiana as a vacationing librarian from New England. Fortune becomes friends with two elderly ladies, Ida Bell and Gertie, who are military veterans and former CIA operatives in Viet Nam. Ida Bell is running for Mayor. Her opponent Ted Williams is murdered and Ida Bell is a suspect. Fortune and the Sinful ladies are out to solve the crime. As the investigation begins they discover that nothing is as it seems.

DeLeon is a good story teller and does an excellent job weaving humor around the suspense. I believe the story is more a comedy than a serious action suspense novel. For being a highly trained assassin, Fortune gets into more funny and stupid situations. DeLeon provides some good descriptions of the Bayous. I read that DeLeon grew up in the Bayous in Carlyss, Louisiana. Cassandra Campbell does a good job narrating the story.

An entertaining mix of suspense and comedy

I like DeLeon's more recent Shaye Archer series more, but the Miss Fortune series is more fun. Cassandra Campbell's narration is perfect for this series.

Reliable entertainment

This one is so far my favorite in the series. The characters are developing and you can rely on the quirky, funny, light mystery that keeps you entertained without causing nightmares.

Another fun book although...

What did you like best about Swamp Sniper? What did you like least?

Gertie and Ida Belle continue to delight. I'm beginning to wonder about Fortune though.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Fortune, as she's settling into the town, seems to be losing her edge (and it's only been a few days!), which takes away from the 'fish out of water' aspect of the story. Don't get me wrong, she's still great but I at parts of the book, I was wondering how she's managed to survive so long as an assassin.

What about Cassandra Campbell’s performance did you like?

Same great performance as in the previous books.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

It would depend on who they cast as Ida Belle and Gertie.

Really fantastic book and narration!

If you could sum up Swamp Sniper in three words, what would they be?

Suspense. Fun. Laughs.

What did you like best about this story?

Everything. It's part of a great series.

Which scene was your favorite?

I can never pick just one. The whole book was very well written and most enjoyable.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Great book - even better movie!

Any additional comments?

This is part of an extremely well written series. Fortune and her cohorts are a hoot! It's a cozy book people! Fortune is allowed to be both a CIA assassin AND a bit of a ditz. That combination makes for enjoyable reading.

More Fun in the Swamp

Amateur detective Fortune and her senior citizen sidekicks Ida Belle and Gertie help solve another mystery in the swamp. Lots of humor and eccentric characters, never a dull moment in Sinful Louisiana. Imagine Golden Girls meets Mission Impossible, with a touch of I Love Lucy slapstick comedy.

still funny

getting a little too predictable, but I do still enjoy the stories and the antics of the 3 main characters. I also appreciate that the story moves without the usual frustrating misunderstandings of most books these days!

Love this series

Fortune Redding is my latest favorite character. I love the playfulness mixed in with believable danger for her and her friends (cohorts). I love how Fortune has made friends with these women who are much older than she is and how Fortune is always amazed at how well the older ladies handle the situations they get into. I picked the first book in the series because I wanted something different. I listen to these books on my fairly long commute to work and back every day. Some of the other mysteries I have read were very intense with the plot dragging out way to long. This series is refreshing. and delightful and i would recommend reading to anyone who enjoys more of a "get away" and escape from the traffic, as I do. Now moving on to the next -- and very excited what these girls get into.

Laughed until my sides ached

When I heard the first book of this series, I knew that I was hooked. Ms. Deleon has the ability to hit the funny bone with her characterizations and her story telling is top notch. This reader is fast becoming one of my favorites.
