Publisher's Summary

The emotional story of a young woman's journey as she leaves behind all the things she thought she wanted, only to discover who she really is. Number-one New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr explores the challenges facing women today as they are valued for what's on the outside rather than the inside.

Jennifer Chaise is proud of her life. Coming from nothing, she's used her beauty to her advantage and is swept up in a glamorous world of wealth and privilege as the mistress of a high-flying businessman. But when she walks in on a violent scene in their Las Vegas hotel room, Jennifer knows she can no longer ignore the truth about her boyfriend, and she flees. Desperate to escape the men searching for her, she invents a whole new persona - with a new look and a new name - as she hides out in a small Nevada town.

Working as a waitress in the local diner, she finds a mentor in Louise, a retired professor who takes her in. As Jennifer begins to embrace a new life, she realizes how much was missing from her old one: a sense of community and purpose. But it's not easy to simply disappear. Her neighbor, Alex, is a cop, and while he's friendly enough, he may also suspect that Jennifer is not what she seems.

Although she is under constant threat of being discovered, Jennifer is surprised to realize that for the first time, she's genuinely happy. Suddenly this real world is all she wants. But will it be enough when her past catches up with her?

Like a Hallmark movie only worse.

I only finished listening to this book because I selected it from the Membership Plus list.
I found the Narrator’s voice to be so sickly sweet and syrupy with an annoying inflection at the end of each sentence.
Jennifer’s past ‘caught up with her’ in the last 10 minutes of the book. The rest of the story dragged from one chapter to the next with far too many characters of no importance. Then it all wrapped up and everyone lived happily ever after.

This is my first and last book by Robyn Carr. I will also be checking to make sure I don't listen to any books narrated by Therese Plummer.

Great book

I really like Robyn Carr novels, this one is especially good. The narrator is very good. I got lost in the story and time flew by!

Narrator is Fantastic!

Robyn Carr, by far, has the best narrator. I couldn't stop listening. The story was great. I wanted more when it was finished. I will be reading all the novels Robyn Carr has to offer.

Swept away

Entertaining, I listen while I drive and the voice is perfect for these types of stories

Enjoyable listen - great narration

Interesting story, some questionable statements made by the lead male character that were pretty cringy. Hasn’t withstood the rest of time. Great narration

Cliche

Although it was fine, it was only fine. Predictable storyline was a bit boring. Description of characters was basic. Narration of one character was over the top & a bit annoying.

Easy plot

I feel like this book is part of a series, or at least that it was not the first book featuring this main character. I felt like I was missing important bits of information the whole time because they kept referring to inricate details of the character's past, and it was obvisouly not part of the main plot. Kind of like inside jokes that I did not quite get. It was a bit frustrating, The plot was nice, although everything fell into place way too effortlessly, it felt a bit easy. I did not like the narrator. Not that she did a bad job, but her voice sounds much older than 30--the age of the main character. It felt like a 60-year-old impersonnating a 30-year-old, I was very put off by it. So... this book passed time. it was OK, not great,

Fun romantic suspense

I didn’t know what to expect. This is my first book with this author. And I think it was a cute romantic suspense. No spice at all. Fun read.
