Publisher's Summary

An inspiring and revealing essay about motherhood, self-acceptance, and overcoming the fears that hold you back by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Open Book.

“If I want to lead myself into something greater than yesterday, I have to surrender the things that scare me and hold me back.”

Jessica Simpson collected so much emotional baggage over the course of her life that she began to feel like she couldn’t carry anything else. She knew she needed to confront her fears. She made a to-do list for the life she wanted. No more struggling to please everyone else. No more dulling the pain. No more avoiding the scary stuff. From now on, she’ll focus only on the expectations she has for herself. With her inviting warmth and trademark intimacy, Jessica reflects on the example of her daughters and son, reclaiming her power and taking the lead in her own life.

Clear, concise and practical

I loved hearing the inflections in her voice perfectly matched with what she was reading. Gives fantastic advice on letting go of fear. Great examples of how it applies to everyone individually. Easy to understand and very inspirational. I found it to be practical and something I can use in my own life. I recommend this book/essay for anyone who is facing a mountain in their life, or who is avoiding the mountain in their life. No matter how small or how big it is, this life lesson shows you, you can do it!

Didn't know what to expect

for as short as this was, I had no idea what to expect. I liked that it was narrated by Jessica simpson. it was a nice little snippet of a life lesson, a few little stories about Jessica and her family.

Empowering!

I’ve been ruled by fear for my entire life so I can identify with Jessica’s story. But I’ve never been given steps to follow to let go. Now I have.

Too short.

This book was incredibly short. It was okay. I liked her first book much better.

Glad this was free

First I’ll say, Jessica sounds like she’s happy where she is in her life, so that’s great.
Second, this book is so uneventful, I have no idea what the point was. This recording could have been her randomly talking at a breakfast or a baby shower - it was like idle chit chat, with a teeny bit of “poor me” weaving through way too many words. If this was supposed to be a “self-help” book in any way, it failed spectacularly.
I wouldn’t say She is awful, but I found this book awful, and listened until the end out of utter curiosity… truthfully, I’m a bit annoyed with myself for doing so.
Not recommended.

Worthy investment of time and in self!

I got away from journaling a long time ago. I'm picking it up again today! And I'm making note of what is it that's preventing me from taking the lead. Thank you Jessica.

I Hope She Writes More

She's such a gifted writer and great human being. I read Open Book when I heard there were juicy personal details but it was so much more.

Great Piece!

I really liked that Jessica touched upon many points of controversy in her life to convey her message. I disagree that this should be longer because it tells just what it needs to. Its a short motivational piece based on her journey defeating her demons which is an ongoing journey. I am pleased, her reading voice was the only thing that made me cringe a bit.
