Publisher's Summary

To Rory Yates, being a Texas Ranger is about justice, but all of that changes when he is brought to a small Southern town to help uncover the mysteries behind a local woman's death - only to discover corruption and lies.

Texas Ranger Rory Yates is not keen for hero status. But it's unavoidable once his girlfriend, country singer Willow Dawes, writes a song about his bravery. Rory escapes his newfound fame when he's sent to the remote West Texas town of Rio Lobo, a municipality with two stoplights. And now, according to the Chief of Police, it has one too many Texas Rangers.

Rio Lobo Detective Ariana Delgado is the one who requested Rory, and the only person who believes a local councilwoman's seemingly accidental death is a murder. Then, Rory begins to uncover a tangle of small-town secrets, favors, and lies as crooked as Texas law is straight.

To get to the truth before more people die, Rory is forced to take liberties with the investigation. The next ballad of Rory Yates may not be about a hero, but rather an outlaw song.

Interesting and moves along with surprising turns

Enjoyed the book and didn’t know there was a first book. I ordered it when I finished this and liked both books so much I re-listened to book two again. I will definitely order book three if and when it comes out.

Highly Recommend!

Texas Outlaw surpassed my expectations. It is fast paced, capturing my attention from page 1. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. never quite sure who was the bad guy. I loved the main character, Texas Ranger Rory Yates. He's a true gentleman with a strong sense of justice. I can't wait for the next installment!

A fair "beach read," at best...

This was my first "Patterson" read, and probably my last. Patterson doesn't seem to be able to "Pulp-out" any reads of late with-out a joint-writer. It may have been a decent "Beach read" if any of the beaches in the State had been open. All in all, a waste of time and book credit.

kinda racist

The Latina cop who has lived in Texas all of her life had a weird fake accent and the performer portrayed Texans based on stereotype.

Great Narration

I spent half my professional life in and out of Texas. This narrator brings a real Texas flavor to the story. Will look for more of his work. Definitely worth a listen.

Don't Waste Your Money

Sorry to say that this Patterson book is really very poor. In each chapter you know what is coming because you have seen it in a "B" cowboy movie of the 1940's

Not bad for 2nd book

The first book was very good, I was a bit disappointed with book 2 but overall was a good read. Not wild about how he falls in love with every girl he works with, when he claims his late wife and then new girlfriend are loves of his life. Until the next one...
