Publisher's Summary
Sparks fly and tension soars when a gutsy 21st century lawyer meets a 19th century Pinkerton agent in a Colorado mining town! Fast-paced Western adventure with a railroad war, gunslingers, dinosaur bones, and romance...
Amber Kelly, mining lawyer and amateur paleontologist, visits her family’s 19th century log cabin in the Colorado mountains and discovers a puzzle box hidden in a 200-year-old loom. Inside the box is a brooch engraved with a Gaelic inscription. After reciting the words, an earthy-scented fog engulfs Amber and whisks her off to Leadville, Colorado, in the year 1878.
Within minutes of arriving in the infamous boomtown, she witnesses a horrifying accident. Pinkerton agent Daniel Grant, a widower on assignment to the Rio Grande Railroad, sees his son fall into the path of a freight wagon. Terrified, he knows he can’t reach him in time. Amber sprints toward the boy, grabs him, and drags him to safety. Although Daniel is grateful to Amber for saving his son’s life, he quickly becomes suspicious of her legal knowledge, odd passion for hunting dinosaur bones, and inability to answer simple questions about her identity.
Olivia Kelly, real estate broker and former litigator, is distraught over her sister’s disappearance. With the assistance of her client, former NYPD detective Connor O’Grady, they search the cabin for clues to Amber’s whereabouts. Connor recognizes the puzzle box and is convinced Amber has gone back in time. But where? With the help of his friends David and Kenzie McBain, they identify two possibilities: Morrison and Canon City, Colorado, in the late 1870s.
A plan to rescue Amber is immediately put into action. The time travelers are drawn into the middle of two wars: a ruthless and competitive bone war between two noted paleontologists and a desperate railroad war between the Santa Fe and the Rio Grande. Their involvement in these wars puts at risk the future of paleontology, the outcome of a sensational legal battle, and the health and hearts of two couples, a 10-year-old boy, and a dog named Ripley.

Great series
I have listened to this entire series. I never thought I would learn so much history from a romance novel. Makes me want to go to Colorado and visit the towns. The narrator has done the entire series and become very good. It would be hard to listen to the next book without her narrating because I know the people from the voices she creates. I cannot wait for the next book to come out. I am dying to know what will happen when all of the brooches have been found.

Send Lawyers Guns and Money...
The "stuff" has hit the fan!!!
Another fast paced, high energy adventure for the MacKlenna Clan!! This series just keeps getting better. And the narrator Teri Schnaubelt does such a great job with the different voices, accents and with getting the emotions (and the humor!) just right. Love the new characters, and the development of the familiar characters adds so much to the story. And they all just keep getting into bigger, better trouble...
Katherine Lowery Logan includes the historical details and personalities in such an informative and entertaining way, I end up following up on her richly layered stories to learn even more by reading about the events and people she seamlessly intertwines with the adventure.
The two love stories in this book were sweet with just the right amount of steamy undertones, and I can’t wait to read more as these couples develop and integrate into the family. And I may just go and get a Stegosaurus tattoo this weekend!!
The next installment can’t get here soon enough!!!!

The Amber Brooch
The brooches typically appear as part of an inheritance and the recipient unknowingly sets off a reaction with the brooch which sends them into the past. The problem is the brooch will not always return the travelers when they want to go home. Supposedly the traveler is brought to the time where they will find their one true love. The Amber Brooch sends a woman named Amber to the year 1857 Colorado during the time the first dinosaur fossils were found. As an amateur paleontologist she is thrilled to be there but there are lots of complications when an outspoken female attorney from the 21st century locks heads with wild west cowboys and is caught up in a battle for railroad rights. Meanwhile Amber's sister is going crazy trying to locate her. Katherine Lowry Logan does an excellent job weaving two storylines in her books, the experiences of the time traveler, and the story of what is happening with regards to her/ his disappearance back home. I suggest reading them in order, beginning with The Ruby Brooch.

Time Travel Research Well Done
I have thoroughly enjoyed this series of time travel books as the author has done excellent research of the eras that the characters visit and their experiences during those travels. The characters are relatable and believable, they seamlessly fit into each time period with ease. I highly recommend starting at the beginning of the series and following each character from the beginning although each book can and does stand on its own. Not sappy time travel, but excellently written dialogue for those that enjoy this genre of writing.

Be ready to learn a lot about the railroad wars.
This book was well-researched and well-written as are all her books. My personal preference would have been to not have so many chapters devoted to the railroad wars. I like to keep audio books that I'll go back to again and again and I know I won't be listening to the railroad wars episodes again.

So so good!
I really love the Brooch Series. I have a new found love in historical novels. It started with the Outlander Series and Sarah Donati’s Into the Wilderness Series. Those Series are epic, spanning over one’s lifetime and beyond. The Brooch Series takes you all over the world and calendar. This book...The Amber Brooch has me looking into taking a road trip to Leadville, CO and random cities surrounding it. The way KLL uses her fun, fantastical family and the brooches to tell exciting historical stories, including the details that one would only find in a detailed history textbook only a history buff would find interesting. I love the romance too. I love how KLL revisits the previous books love stories so us HEA fanatics are satisfied. I love all the books in this series, including the ones that follow this one. I can’t wait for more.
