A very pleasant discovery!

I bought this set of books really on nothing more than a whim. I normally am a sci-fi person when it comes to books. However within 20 minutes I was completely hooked.

The story here is very well thought out and written. The author showing us a world where kids for the main part are the survivors and the horrors and joys they find is a great perspective or foundation for this world. Watching characters grow into adulthood and figure out how communities, family, friendships and enemies develop to me had more impact due to this foundation. In all honesty for me making knowing where the characters went next and what happened to them feel very personally invested to learn these facts.

The narrator also really brings this series to life. Adam Barr did a wonderful job in creating these characters in my mind and keeping them separate as it is a decent size cast of characters to keep track of. This a skill that he has learned very well and I thank him for it.

I have already purchased the follow up series with great anticipation as to what happens next!

Developed characters and strong storyline

This box set was a enjoyable listen. I found that the characters were well developed. As the story goes on we see the events though Issac’s eyes. We hear what Issac thinks as these events happen. The story is believable with realist outcomes in the story. This has been done so far with out extremes violence or sexual content, appropriate for teens, young adults. Listen the the box set and now ready for the next instalment.

frustrating

good story and kept my interest. but the main character makes life way too difficult for himself and gets far too many of his people killed or seriously injured by going so far out of his way to not kill his enemies. usually when someone tries to kill you, more than once, SAYS they're gonna kill you, KILLS your friends, threatens to kill more, is obviously an evil person and deserves to die...... you'd just kill them the first chance you got so they don't kill you or anyone else, again. well this kid just refuses to!! he CONSTANTLY let's people go just so they can come back 10 min later and cause more damage and try to kill him again. then he gets the upper hand and is in a position to end it all, but AGAIN let's the bad guys go! over and over again! towards the end youre basically rooting for the bad guy because the kid basically deserves what he gets.

More for teens

Not a bad book. But if you are a "survivalist" and are knowledgeable even just from hiking/camping it leaves you kind of flat. I think if I was in my teens I would have really liked this.

Pretty good

I am a bit cautious on post-apocalyptic-style books, as many seem to try too hard to be overly detailed on useless information. This series was a good break from that. The only bad part is that the next 3 books aren’t available on audible yet.

Uncomplicated fairly good story

I liked the way this story line played out. Simple but good. I bought the omnibus edition and recommend it.

Entertaining

If your a fan of the walking dead and the 100 then you will love this book. It has a predictable plot due to the elements being over used within the past couple of years but is still very enjoyable. Personally I could not stop listening and finished within 2 days of starting the book. The only thing I did not care for was that it ends on a drop, not even a clif hanger. There was resolution to current predicaments but no over all wrap up which I find annoying. But I suppose there will be more books and if so I can over look this issue. I received this book for free in return for an unbiased review and I'm very glad that I did. I would definitely recomend this book to all of my friends and family.

Great series.

The plot of this sees anyone over a certain age die from a virus that is unleashed upon America. Very few adults survived so the kids are left to fend for themselves. A 15 year old is determined to find a safe place and sets out to find it when he hears a broadcast over the radio. Along the way he meets up with friends and foes alike and the "safe" place they set out to find, might not be all it looks to be. The plot itself was fairly fast paced and easy to become involved in. It was quite scary to read about how and who set the virus loose, also about why they did it!! It was plausible and gave me a chill down my spine while reading it. Each book ends in a cliffhanger so I was glad these were bundled together!

The characters were all easy to like, though at times I forgot they were supposed to be teenagers because at times they acted like they were older. Also Isaac was a bit too good at things! At 15, my sons were typical teens, I really don't think they would be as level headed as Isaac was. He was able to take charge of himself fairly quickly, were as I would picture most 15 year olds panicking or doing some silly stuff before they finally get themselves together. I think this added to the fact that most of the characters felt older than they were. Other than that, I enjoyed the group and seeing them develop and grow with each encounter.

In all, an enjoyable read and I look forward to the next bundle. I need to see what happens to the rest of the gang.

Adam Barr was good. He was clear and concise, with a likable voice. The only problem I found was that he dropped the characters voice at times during dialogues. They all started sounding the same and I was confused about who was talking.

I was given this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. This in no way affected nor influenced my thoughts.
