Action-packed from the start, Hidden Order demonstrates yet again why Brad Thor is the "master of thrillers". A string of high-profile kidnappings has Washington, D.C., in a frenzy. When the victims begin turning up dead, frenzy turns to panic. And when the ransom demand is finally made public, panic will turn to terror. In Brad Thor's riveting new thriller, the stakes have never been higher, nor the lines between good and evil so hard to discern.

Story
In ancient texts, there are stories about men who struck from the shadows, seemingly beyond the reach of death itself. These men were considered part angel, part demon. Their loyalty was to their families, their friends, and their kings. You crossed these men at your peril. And once crossed, there was no crossing back. They were fearless; men of honor who have been known throughout history by different names: Spartan, Viking, Samurai.

Publisher's Summary
A new administration and a new approach to dealing with America's enemies have left covert counterterrorism operative Scot Harvath without a job. But when American doctor Julia Gallo is kidnapped in Afghanistan, the terms of her ransom leave the president with only one course of action. In a dangerous assignment that the United States government will deny any knowledge of, Scot Harvath must secretly infiltrate Kabul's notorious Policharki Prison and free the man the kidnappers demand as ransom -- al-Qaeda mastermind, Mustafa Khan.
But when Harvath arrives, he quickly learns that there is more to the kidnapping than anyone dares to admit. And as the subterfuge is laid bare, Harvath must examine his own career of hunting down and killing terrorists, and ask himself if he has what it takes to help one of the world's worst go free.
Brimming with the kind of ripped-from-the-headlines authenticity Brad Thor's internationally bestselling novels are known for, The Apostle doubles down on the blockbuster success of The Last Patriot and reaffirms Thor's status as the master of the political thriller.

Great book with one minor flaw
I loved this book and it’s narration, but as a Canadian this needs to be said... The narrator did a horrible job narrating the only Canadian to have a major role in a Harvath story. Dude... we sound nothing like that goofy BS accent he was using ;)

Worst yet in an otherwise good series
I really loved the other books he wrote, with Blowback probably being the best.
But this one really sucks. The Secret Service plot is just a side story, and not related to the main story.
The main story does not carry anything special, and Norseman is just a regular soldier in this one. It does not have the techno-thriller magic like the other ones. There are weak attempts with the lake of broken glass, but it looks like Brad could not find enough material or ideas to really use this tale, or he was lazy.
OK entertainment, but absolutely not the level of his other books.

Boo! Hiss! Not Worthy!
This book destroys suspension of disbelief. I enjoyed all the other books in the series, even when they stretched believability. But this one 1) has Scot Harvath accept a job to release a vicious terrorist, at least at first. 2) Doing so, with no back up from a President he doesn't know or trust, places him in the position of essentially working FOR terrorists. And 3) It ignores a SIMPLE alternative, where Scot would put together a team to go in by night and kill everyone surrounding the kidnap victim, before they even know the team was there.
Not worthy.
I'm so fed up I'll toss this one. If I'm wrong, and the book dresses these issues, someone please let me know.

Brad does it again!
Brad Thor grabs you and doesn't let go...once again! This is a fantastic story and Thor certainly does his research. This time he even shadowed a black ops team in Afghanistan to find out just how they would react in a similiar situation.
My only disappointment...I finished it too fast and will now have to wait another year for the next Harvath installment!

Good But Not As Good As Previous Thor Books
I've read all Thor's books in the Scott Horvath series. I've enjoyed them all - including this one. But this one is not as good as the previous books. Storyline and actions just not as dramatic as his other books, in my opinion.

Great novel in a great series!
Brad Thor's Scot Harvarh series is one of my favorites of the espionage thriller genre. The novels as consistently 4 or 5 star thrillers. Thor does not have the talent of Vince Flynn, but then few do. This novel is set mostly in Afghanistan. Harvath's task is to enter a prison and kidnap a terrorist in order to free a kidnapped American doctor. George Guidall narrated the prior five novels in the Harvath series, but Thor goes back to Armand Shultz for this and the rest of his novels. Giving up Guidall's narration for anyone else is usually an error, but Schultz is almost as good.

not even my "suspension of disbelief" can hang
i am not even pausing the book to write this.....i have listened to the entire "Harvath" series , and , will finish it....but ,,, really. Hesitated on Armand Schultz, but got into his narration.....I was ruined on this weak effort the moment Scot agreed to go against everything he stands for, and go get the stupid kid, of the stupid b-tch. Unable to recover from THE one premise that sent him on his way......which he would/should never do, i can't recover......i have a strong ability for the ol' "suspension of disbelief" , required for such great reads, in my opinion, as the Jack Reacher, Dirk Pitt, Bob Lee Swagger, Mitch R app books, and now it may be clear that i have run out of riveting reads.....please help , with a suggestion.....thank you...and btw, I've also listened to(and very much enjoyed) the NUMA files, and Oregon as well...Van Dorn detectives, and the Fargo's were also great, I include these because I regret hammering this book, and hope my ref's give you some perspective, as to my comments

Great modern tale of excitement and suspense
Brad Thor has written an great tale of suspense and adventure set in the modern world with all of the issues currently in the headlines. The plot was great and the characters were adequately developed to draw the reader into the story. I felt like I was along for the ride in downtown DC and in Afghanistan as well! An awesome story and a must read for lovers of mercenary drama like this.
