Publisher's Summary

Millions of people suffer from autoimmunity whether they know it or not. The root cause of most weight gain, brain and mood problems, and fatigue, autoimmunity can take years - or even decades - for symptoms and a clear diagnosis to arise. Through years of research, Dr. Tom O'Bryan has discovered that autoimmunity is actually a spectrum, and many people experiencing general malaise are already on it. And while autoimmune diseases, such as Alzheimer's, multiple sclerosis, osteoporosis, diabetes, and lupus, have become the third leading cause of death behind heart disease and cancer, many people affected are left in the dark. The good news is that many autoimmune conditions can be reversed through a targeted protocol designed to heal the autoimmune system, 70 percent of which is located in the gut.

The Autoimmune Fix includes two comprehensive three-week plans: In the first three weeks, you'll follow a paleo-inspired diet, during which you cut out gluten, sweets, and dairy - the three primary culprits behind autoimmunity. Once the dietary changes have been addressed, The Autoimmune Fix focuses on the other causes of autoimmunity, such as genetics, other dietary issues, and microbiome.

Incredible!

Loved the book. Tom O Bryan has a wonderful way of explaining the connection of inflammation to subtle, less than desirable, symptoms we are facing daily ie. fatigue, bloating, gas, lethargy. And he provides the fix in a realistic way in that it can take some time for the body to heal. He provides hope that the body can heal itself once we have the knowledge on how to look after it.

Great book just missed a couple things

Excellent dietary advice. Approaches from a clinical view point without burying people with jargon. Enough to explain. Not too much to confuse.

The points missed

Dr O'Bryan...you're a Chiroptactor, at least a mention to the profession would have been an easy tie into the book and material. If the body is not functioning via the CNS properly, then we are already at a disadvantage.
Second...the restaurant section I disagree with. Restaurants provide a service and product. Buyer beware. If you have large dietary constrictions then if a restaurant cannot accommodate it is not their issue. They are not obliged to comply. If they can...awesome.

Excellent Book!

I’m an MD in my residency and absolutely loved this book! So much of medical education does not include training in nutrition. As I go further in my training, I’m learning medicine is a practice of disease management. Absence of disease does not always mean there is an absence of ailment. I’m so excited books like this one are being published for the public, encouraging everyone to take responsibility for their health.

This book also helped me personally with my own health! I’m active and thought I was doing my best to stay healthy. Since reading this book, I feel better than I have in a long time!

Great book, horribly voiced

Tom O’Bryan is brilliant, no doubt about it.
The book is sadly almost impossible to listen to because of the horrible over-acting of the guy to reads it.
Super annoying, should be re-done with someone speaking friggin normal

Excellent and Informative

I was recently diagnosed with MS. Although my symptoms are very mild, I had an MRI and spinal tap and other tests to confirm the diagnosis. I wanted to find out everything I could about the illness. I heard about the series Betrayal that Tom O'Bryan was a part of and I was so thankful I did. I found he had written two books and grabbed both of them as soon as I could (the other book is You Can Fix Your Brain, narrated by Dr. O'Bryan, and it's excellent too). I figured I had nothing to lose by implementing his plan and concepts and so far so good. Very simple to follow and the whole idea makes perfect sense. In 2 months I lost 10 pounds, which wasn't my goal but cutting out my sugar and bread addiction helped me slim down quickly. I am able to think more clearly. I don't have as many aches and pains and tingling as I did. I hope I have stopped the fire in my brain and am doing what I can to help mitigate my MS. I wish everyone -- mostly doctors -- was aware of the concepts in this book. It's life-changing and I'm so grateful I found Dr. O'Bryan. Wish I'd found him sooner. If you think this is all hocus-pocus, simply try it for 2 months and see how you feel. It made a world of difference to me.

Incredible guidance

As I am just learning about auto immune conditions this book has been crucial to my understanding. My family history predisposes me for auto immune and in my late 30s I am already showing symptoms of arthritis. I want to thank Dr. Bryan and Dr. Bland for their work in this book. It does a great job of explaining in laymen’s terms the importantance of a healthy diet that benefits those who may be on the auto immune spectrum.
