Publisher's Summary

“Thursday morning. One hundred pounds overweight, no man in sight, and rounding the bend to 57 years old - a full-blown catastrophe.”

What happens when you realize you’ve had the career of your dreams, but you don’t have the life of your dreams? This was the stark reality facing Sheri Salata when she left her 20-year stint at The Oprah Winfrey Show, Harpo Studios, and the OWN network. She had dedicated decades to her dream job, and loved (almost) every minute of it, but had left the rest of her life gathering dust on the shelf. After years of telling other people’s makeover stories, Sheri decided to “produce” her own life transformation. And this meant revisiting her past, excavating its lessons, and boldly reimagining her future.

In this audiobook, she invites listeners along for the ride - detoxing in the desert, braving humiliation at Hollywood’s favorite fitness studio, grappling with losses, reinventing friendships, baring her soul in sex therapy, and more. Part cautionary tale, part middle-of-life rallying cry, Sheri’s stories offer profound inspiration for personal renewal.

Been searching for a book like this!

This book spoke directly to me in many ways. Career success. Navigating midlife and beyond. Power of mindset. Appreciation. Choices.

All served up by Sheri in such a joyful and powerful way. The stories are fabulous and the way they are delivered, make it all even better.

Thanks for the connection, tears and laughter!

I'm giving this "A BEAUTIFUL YES!"

I discovered Sheri Salata on a podcast I listen to. I hadn't known anything about her or that she worked for Oprah for 21 years. However, her brand new book, "The BEAUTIFUL NO" is all her own and is a great listen! She narrates it herself in her down-to-earth, quirky, vulnerable, and hilarious way and invites you join her on her Soul-Searching/Magical-Mystery/Detox-Detour of her Mid-West•Mid-50's•Mid-Life PIVOT. Her personal trials are beautifully woven into her heartbreaking and joy-filled memoir – as she pulls the plug on her dream career to give her life the healthy jumpstart it was requiring – in order to re-imagine a life she never gave herself the time to stop and create. Her tenacious spirit allowed her to whip up magic for everyone around her except herself and "The BEAUTIFUL NO" offers you a permission slip to follow the instincts that tell you that you are worth every minute of the time you have left to create the life you have imagined! Sometimes only a "NO" will do!

LOVE.THIS.BOOK

I listened to this in less than 2 days. Couldn’t stop! It was touching, hilarious, relevant and inspiring. As many others have said, Sheri Salata’s The Beautiful No felt like like having coffee with a friend, mentor, sister. Her story could be any woman’s story but she has written it so beautifully. If you’re in your twenties or even thirties, you may not fully relate. In my opinion, this is even more relevant for women who have “lived” through the stages of life, been knocked down and have been at the top of the mountain, and have a hunger for more. I’m inspired to keep going!

So many gems in this beautiful story!

I didn't know what to expect with this book and worried that it would repeat a lot of what I have heard in the podcasts. While there were a few things I had heard before, so much of it was new and WOW have I been forever changed by reading it. Sheri opens her life and allows us to learn and observe along with her. I was practically in tears during the first few chapters as I identified with her feelings about being in this midpoint of our lives. How did she know me so well?!! It poignantly highlighted the shared human experiences, questions, and decisions from the view of a 50-something. Throughout the book I found meaning in her stories that related to my own life. And the stories about her life were entertaining and interesting. The story about her mom makes me want to hug mine even harder when I get to see her this summer.

Thank you, Sheri, for the gifts in this beautiful book. You have touched me deeply and I am grateful.

The most amazing book!

I truly hope everyone I know will listen or read this book. It was unbelievable and honestly will remain my favorite book. The stories shared aren’t just words but gifts and I truly can’t think of a single soul that wouldn’t benefit from this book. I love that it was Sheri who narrated this novel.. the hours flew by and it felt like hearing a friend give you wisdom and kindness. Her words gently nudging to never give up hope and to keep your heart open to the universe and a reminder that love is what connects us all. It’s a beautiful book that’s transformative and energizing - treat yourself to experiencing it. :)

Not much substance, feels whiny at times

If you are looking for a memoir, it is good if you are looking for inspiration and you have read other inspirational books, look elsewhere. This one just wasn’t for me.

The Beautiful No

I have been waiting with great anticipation to hear Sheri tell her story. Bits and pieces have been discussed on her Pillar Life podcast and I have enjoyed every minute and wanted more details and this book delivers. I am so happy she reads her own words. The end is a creative metaphor to taking a moment to shift our gaze in life to seek new ways of finding what we need. I am excited for us women who listen and try new ways to grow and change in this middle life time of transformation.
