Most people know Andrew McCarthy from his movie roles in Pretty in Pink, St. Elmo's Fire, Weekend at Bernie's, and Less Than Zero, and as a charter member of Hollywood's Brat Pack. That iconic group of ingenues and heartthrobs has come to represent both a genre of film and an era of pop culture. In his memoir, McCarthy focuses his gaze on that singular moment in time. The result is a revealing look at coming of age in a maelstrom, reckoning with conflicted ambition, innocence, addiction, and masculinity.

Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Letting it rip, and damning the consequences, is not only liberating, it's a hell of a lot of fun: "Being the age I am - that so many women are - is just the best time of my life."

Publisher's Summary
New York Times Best Seller
Sharon Stone tells her own story: a journey of healing, love, and purpose.
“Not your typical Hollywood autobiography. Brutally honest, restless and questing.” (O, The Oprah Magazine)
Sharon Stone, one of the most renowned actresses in the world, suffered a massive stroke that cost her not only her health, but her career, family, fortune, and global fame. In The Beauty of Living Twice, Stone chronicles her efforts to rebuild her life and writes about her slow road back to wholeness and health. In a business that doesn’t accept failure, in a world where too many voices are silenced, Stone found the power to return, the courage to speak up, and the will to make a difference in the lives of men, women, and children around the globe.
Over the course of these intimate pages, as candid as a personal conversation, Stone talks about her pivotal roles, her life-changing friendships, her worst disappointments, and her greatest accomplishments. She reveals how she went from a childhood of trauma and violence to a career in an industry that in many ways echoed those same assaults, under cover of money and glamour. She describes the strength and meaning she found in her children, and in her humanitarian efforts. And ultimately, she shares how she fought her way back to find not only her truth, but her family’s reconciliation and love.
Stone made headlines not just for her beauty and her talent, but for her candor and her refusal to “play nice,” and it’s those same qualities that make this memoir so powerful. The Beauty of Living Twice is a book for the wounded and a book for the survivors; it’s a celebration of women’s strength and resilience, a reckoning, and a call to activism. It is proof that it’s never too late to raise your voice and speak out.

“In this courageous, daring and tender-hearted memoir, Sharon Stone interrogates her own trauma and a myriad of losses and discovers the gift of clear seeing. Elegance, Intelligence, Truth
Geez... what an interesting lady, an interesting journey, and an interesting perspective on life!... Quirky and graceful, Colourful and witty, Gracious and solemn. The non-linear style of story-telling kept me listening and intrigued... and enlightened. I feel her self-awareness, and her giving spirit, have made this world a better place. You don't need to be a Rocket Scientist, or the Pope, or the Dalai Lama, to make a special difference; it isn't her movie-star-status that matters, it's Sharon's human-being-status that is the contribution...her kindness, her giving, her LOVE to people and communities she cherishes. Bravo Sharon! I'd be happy to read and hear more from Sharon, her insightful thoughts, views, and wisdoms, are a gift. Namaste!

BRILLIANT! An Important Book for Women
The audible "Sample" of the text pulled me into this memoir ie. that Sharon Stone had had a stroke and lived to talk about it. I wanted details of that. As I listened to this book, I was amazed by her recall of events and names; so rich versus my little bank of memories. Ms. Stone has given us a full-throated, real, very detailed, and at times, happy and sad biography of her work, family and life. She has found solace and joy though through Buddhist principles and the joy of serving! Talking, listening and sharing is key...of course...then 'doing.' Listen and learn from this woman! She is brilliant and has a lot to say! It is important that you read all of this book which culminates in the last chapters and Me Too.

I enjoyed her learning and discussing so many things that happened to her - before and after the stroke. I loved her stories about helping others, the poser of meditation, and the joy of learning who loves you.
She didn’t have a blessed childhood but she was blessed to be beautiful and that was her ticket out. That she chose to learn and grow and be compassionate is amazing.

Change after a close encounter with Death
This book is different. I have not listened to anything similar to it, nor was it what I expected. The coverage of the industry is there and some incidents are brushed over; but the book was deeply personal.
Mrs. Stone shared many secrets, thoughts and beliefs and she choked many times during the book. No one can understand why some of these incidents shakes some to the core unless... Well, if it needs explanation then the listener is listening to the wrong book.
The book made me laugh so many times, and Mrs. Stone have many gifts and the narration goes perfect with the wits and sarcasm. My favourite was the bus stop 🛑
The book goes beyond the memoir of an actress, and deeper into life and meaning and purpose and healing. It is a book about abuse and the power of opening up.
I am truly so happy for her, and I wish her more enlightenment and happiness and her family.

I wanted to love this book because I have always loved Sharon Stone as an actress but it seemed to be very scattered in thought. It seemed to jump all over the place instead of being cohesive. Sharon Stone sounded like she was exhausted most of the time. I give it a 5 out of 10.
