fast start into pure self-therapy

if you’re struggling in your personal life with overwhelming feelings of self-doubt this book will shine a spotlight on your core misunderstanding. it astounds me that this philosophy has existed right under our noses for 2,500 years and isn’t taught to everyone (or used by psychotherapists.) this book is not encyclopedic, it’s not a reference textbook that takes weeks to wade through. it’s a quickstart like attending a weekend self-help seminar. your eyes will open to how delusional our human minds are and how we can fix them at the convergence of philosophy and psychology. i slowed the reader’s clear deep voice to 80% to ponder every word. my search is over, i have found my truth. 5 star nonfiction at its best. [helpful note: the word “indifferents” is a category of problems we live through every day. it’s a noun developed by these philosophers. it only partially means indifference but he is not saying indifference, he is saying “indifferents.” remember this or you’ll misunderstand the concept.]

Great book horrid narration

It seems like this was recorded awhile ago not because of the sound quality but it’s a very old school style “self-help book” style deep voice narrator. Not my fav.

Love stoicism but this book…

Boring. Good performance by the narrator but the material was hard to finish. Truly a beginners guide. If you know anything about stoicism, I would suggest to pass on this audiobook.

Inspiring and Practical

I know this is just a beginner's guide but I knew nothing about stoicism before this book so I was looking for a quick introduction to see if stoicism was for me.

As it turns out, I'm very interested and hopeful that these practices will help me live a better life.

The book itself is well performed, well written. I will definitely be giving it another listen and taking notes. it's concise, which is it's best quality. It gives you just enough without overwhelming. This gives you effective practical ways of dealing with anxiety, Anger, and life immediately. You don't have to sit through 10 hours of philosophy and guess how to apply it. The concepts are easy, though I suspect the practice is not.

I like that the book briefly covers the history as well as giving you more resources to study. it's really just a primer I guess.

I'm thankful to the author for turning me down this path. This was just what I needed, and what I was searching for.

Live Changing, Literally

THIS is the book I needed. Like the author, I found that cognitive behavior therapy tools help control the mind, but studying the Stoics helps you learn how to LIVE. This is not the stoicism that many mistake as being emotionally mute, this is the stoicism that enables you to live joyfully. The value of this particular book by Van Natta is that it makes the basic tenets of the practice easy to understand. Once you understand a concept and can apply it in your daily life, you may not practice it perfectly, but you can really see the benefit in striving to do so! The narration is really good as well. I am grateful when I discover a book like this.

A good outline on mindfulness

As I am in my early stages of learning stoicism, this was a great listen. I appreciate Van Natta's thoroughness to providing a full picture of stoic ideals in an engaging and understandable format. I also find that Rimpici's dictation for the audio provided easy listening as he imparts Van Natta's works with an easy energy.
