now I understand why this particular book is free, they want to get you hooked, they want you to buy more of these, I think I have to, I think I need to, more best horror of the year! More now! I can't sleep anymore, why would I want to sleep anymore.

called the best for a good reason

In the end not many of the stories were scary or even thrilling. A few were well written enough to get through, at least two of them inched towards chilling. (One of which i actually wish had been longer, so it could be enjoyed more) and the rest were just okay. Still, the fact that you get to experience more than one story makes the purchase feel worthwhile.
lastly, the narrators were actually pretty decent 👌
