Summary

Not my favourite Agatha Christie novel but still a fun romp through the espionage genre. Hugh Frasier's narration was spot on as usual. The story line was far fetched but full of enough of Poirot's clever detecting to keep me interested until the end. A thoroughly enjoyable book overall.

By far the weakest Christie novel I have read. Christie completely abandons the tried and true formula of her mystery novels in favour of something James Bondian. Alas the result is rather disastrous. There are no cleverly constructed puzzles intended to exercise the little grey cells. The story is boring, ridiculous and very unsatisfying. A rare miss.

Agatha Christie writing a campy mid century spy novel would be one thing, but shoe horning her Belgian detective into such a mélange was a step too far. Fortunately for my tastes, this book can be comfortably skipped without disrupting the flow of the other Poirot mysteries as they more or less stand alone and only occasionally and obliquely refer to each other. I've read this, but was ultimately unwilling to listen to it. Book returned.

If, however, you have a taste for the ridiculous, The Big Four might be right up your street.

I can find no fault with the quality of the narration.
