Publisher's Summary
A stolen child. A killer stalking the streets of Glasgow. A troubled detective running out of time.
Five years ago, DCI John Lomond led the search for notorious Glasgow child-killer ‘The Sandman', until personal tragedy forced him off the case.
In Lomond's absence, the killer was never found.
Now, with nothing but work left in his life, Lomond remains obsessed with the case–despite the nightmares it brings.
When a child is abducted in similar Sandman fashion from an affluent Glasgow suburb, Lomond is brought in to find them before it's too late.
But the only forensic evidence belongs to a little girl who was abducted and murdered twenty years ago.
Could the Sandman's identity lie buried in the coldest of cold cases? Or is a new killer about to claim their first victim?
The Bonnie Dead is the explosive debut Scottish crime thriller from Andrew Raymond–author of Amazon number one political thriller Official Secrets, which has now sold over 100,000 copies.
Shot through with dark Glaswegian humour and thrilling twists, he captures the voices of his beloved home city, taking you into its hidden depths, and the iconic hills and glens of nearby Loch Lomond and Arran.
If you like writers like JD Kirk, Ian Rankin, and Stuart MacBride, this addictive thriller will have you gripped until its haunting, heart-in-the-mouth climax.

Confusing
The story/ plot were fine and the narration by Angus King was stellar, but the writer insisted on using given names only for everyone - police, suspects, victims - which made it very confusing. He gave King little in the way of differentiating voice from another, as "ambitious" or "thorough" maybe important character traits but not so much for separating personalities. For me, I had difficulty knowing who was talking, who they were taking about, or who was in charge. It's just sloppy writing - assuming the reader knows your characters as well as you. It just took a lot of enjoyment out of the story for me.

Spellbinding Book & Performance!
First of all, The Bonnie Dead is a fast paced mystery with twists and turns aplenty. Pay close attention or you’ll miss something! Secondly, the sound of Angus King’s voice will draw you right in from the first word until the last. His moderate voice characterizations gives a subtle and effective read.
Put it this way, I’d listen to anything he’s reading!

Thrilled to find a new Scottish noir series
Having run out of the adventures of JD Kirk’s DCI Logan and Co., I am very excited about coming across this first book in another gritty yet darkly humorous series set in Scotland and read by Angus King, my all-time favourite narrator. I enjoyed the book a lot, despite a few parts, where are the story was a little convoluted, and I felt that there were too many characters crowding in, but I have high hopes that Raymond will settle in and find his groove. In fact, I already have the second book in the series, and I am looking forward to more of Andrew Raymond.

Thoroughly Enjoyable
Thoroughly enjoyed this story, great characters kept you on your toes and never would you have guessed the ending. I also loved the quotes "Without the darkness you can't see the stars" and "Life isn't what happens to you, it's how you handle what happens to you" so many people will relate to these. I am looking forward to the next book hopefully there is another. Angus King does an amazing job as narrator.

Good start to a series!
Another reviewer remarked that this was a not so great copy cat of JD Kirk's, DCI Logan series but I do not agree with that assessment. This was an interesting story and was pretty well written. The MC is likeable and the plot line has some pretty good twists. I think the reason for the other reviewers comments were because this series is also narrated by Angus King. A lot of the voices are similar including that the MC has the same voice as DCI Logan but I don't think that can be helped. There are only so many voices one narrator can do, and personally I love Angus King's narration and have started other series specifically because he was the reader. I am moving on to book two now!

An imitation of DCI Logan series
Same narrator, who’s excellent. Similar location to JD Kirk’s stories. And too similar in characters and story and tone. To me, this is an imitation of JD Kirk, and not a great one either. You’ll probably enjoy it if you discover it first, but I didn’t. All credit nonetheless to putting Scotland and Glasgow on the map by another author and narrator.
