Publisher's Summary

Revisit the packhorse librarians of Kentucky with this stunning companion to the New York Times best seller The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.

In the ruggedness of the beautiful Kentucky mountains, Honey Lovett has always known that the old ways can make a hard life harder. As the daughter of the famed blue-skinned Troublesome Creek packhorse librarian, Honey and her family have been hiding from the law all her life. But when her mother and father are imprisoned, Honey realizes she must fight to stay free, or risk being sent away for good.

Picking up her mother’s old packhorse library route, Honey begins to deliver books to the remote hollers of Appalachia. Honey is looking to prove that she doesn’t need anyone telling her how to survive. But the route can be treacherous, and some folks aren’t as keen to let a woman pave her own way.

If Honey wants to bring the freedom that books provide to the families who need it most, she’s going to have to fight for her place, and along the way, learn that the extraordinary women who run the hills and hollers can make all the difference in the world.

Lovely

This was a fantastic second part to the first book. Wonderful and feel good storyline with the absolute best narration out of any audio book I’ve ever listened to. I wish I could give this book 10 stars. I really appreciated the background on the skin condition and pack horse library program.

Compelling story

Having read The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek, I was eager to follow up with this story. The story weaves together the lives of eastern Appalachians in the early 1950s, and
exposes the impact of a male dominated society through the eyes of several courageous women.
The reader carries the cadence of the people masterfully and brings the characters to life.

Loves the fact the book incorporates history of the region .

Enjoyed the story and the independence of the main character, despite the chat and trauma she had endured,

excellent!

The narration was excellent and it's an interesting story. I don't know much about Kentucky hills, so found it really interesting hearing what life was like in the hills in the 1950s. I didn't read the first one and had no problem listening to this as a stand alone.

Wonderful depiction of life.

An excellent depiction of life in the late 1950s and how people of colour were treated. Very good research to bring the story to life. Excellent narration!

Excellent continuation of the loveable Book woman original!

This would make an excellent mini series as it is so well written you can start filming right now.

Incredible performance

This book and it’s prequel we’re some of the best historical fiction I’ve read. The authors research notes at the end of the book add to this literary genius. Would joyfully read any of her future books!
