Publisher's Summary
The Book of Pride captures the true story of the gay rights movement from the 1960s to the present, through richly detailed, stunning interviews with the leaders, activists, and ordinary people who witnessed the movement and made it happen. These individuals fought battles both personal and political, often without the support of family or friends, frequently under the threat of violence and persecution.
By shining a light on these remarkable stories of bravery and determination, The Book of Pride not only honors an important chapter in American history, but also empowers young people today (both LGBTQ and straight) to discover their own courage in order to create positive change. Furthermore, it serves a critically important role in ensuring the history of the LGBTQ movement can never be erased, inspiring us to resist all forms of oppression with ferocity, community, and most importantly, pride.

Setting the tone
I can’t say enough how much I loved listening to this! I felt validated, reminded, informed, and better for having heard it! I am starting it over again because there was so much I am sure I missed something!
Like hearing your family share shared stories from different perspectives.
I feel less alone!
Thank you is not enough

Pure Joy for EVERYONE
This book is so much better than I expected. This is a book of wonderful, fast-paced, relatable stories. It's like being in the comfortable living rooms of favorite distant relatives and lovingly being told stories that seem meant for your ears. Persons who are not LGBTQ will be just as engaged as LGBTQ readers/listeners. The personal struggles, family dynamics, social surprises, and courageous actions have a universal quality -- even as they specifically reveal the unique challenges and strengths in the LGBTQ community. I want to buy the physical book now and assemble a one-off book club. I feel certain that much will be learned from how readers respond to and relate through each story. I urge that the audible version be played in the car for the whole family (or carpool) to hear the stories and be inspired to be authentic, courageous, hard-working, humorous, and all of the other virtues on display throughout. And, if by the end of the book, you have not had at least one great conversation with a co-listener -- not necessarily on an LGBTQ topic, but the sort of conversation that would not have occurred without the book -- then I'll buy you a Coke. I'm raving because, truly, this book is that good.

Incredible preservation of queer history.
The book is merely samples of dozens and dozens of interviews taken by the Outwords Archive, but the samples they pick leave an impact. I encourage you, like the book, to check out the full interviews. Queer people are not a new thing, and we sure as shit aren't going anywhere anytime soon. An incredibly important book for keeping our history alive.

Goose Bumps
Truly inspirational. A must read for every Pride month. I learned so much more than I ever would have otherwise. If they make a part 2 I would buy it in a heartbeat.

History is important
We should never forget what our community did prior to the 90s to get the rights that some to most of us enjoy and laid the ground work to continue the fight. Making sure that no one puts our community back into the closet. It has helped me to realize we still need to heal our community and not exclude its members.

Amazing stories of those who made the world better
Really enjoyed listening to this book. Growing up in the 90s, I felt like I didn't have a great perspective of the trial and tribulations of my forebears who paved the way for equality that I now enjoy. This book satisfied this need! Each short story felt like I was sitting down and having a short informal conversation with the protagonist. Definitely recommend for anyone wanting a perspective of LGBTQ history.

These are great story of the LGBTQ historic often not widely known heroes.

Inspiring
I found this book uplifting and quite moving. The stories give important insights into the struggles, the hopes, the commitments, and achievements of the LGBTQIA+ community. These stories also serve as lessons of continuing to fight to good fight for rights and equality for all in these times of hateful attacks by the right wing. The message is Stay Strong and Keep on Keeping on.
