À propos de cet audio

Lavinia Brandon is quite the loveliest widow in Barsetshire, blessed with beauty and grace as well as two handsome grown-up children, Delia and Francis. So thinks their cousin, Hilary Grant, when he comes to stay and - like many before him - promptly falls for his fragrant hostess.

Meanwhile the Brandons' ill-tempered dowager aunt is stirring up controversy over her legacy, and Lavinia's attention is further occupied by the challenges of making a match between the vicar and gifted village helpmeet Miss Morris and elegantly deterring her lovestruck suitors.

Angela Thirkell's 1930s comedy is bright, witty and winning.

Fifty years ago, when I was first introduced to Angela Thirkell’s delightful novels about Trollop’s Barsetshire, the friend who recommended the books to me suggested I start with The Brandons. It was good advice. Lavinia Brandon is a charming character and one who appears in many of the subsequent novels. You are bound to love her. Prepare to be sucked into the pre World War II world of Barsetshire. I suspect you will then join me in hoping audible hurries up to add more volumes to their list, especially the ones written during this War, which provide a very unusual and intimate picture of.the home front. I cherish my carefully collected collection of these books wan thoroughly enjoying this new way of revisiting Thirkell’s world and watching how this snobbish remnant of Edwardian England matures and mellows in the post War years. Enjoy!

Welcome to the world of Barsetshire
