À propos de cet audio

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Three disgraced judges plot a major scam from behind bars—with national consequences—in this “crackerjack tale” (Entertainment Weekly) from the master of the legal thriller.

They call themselves the Brethren: a trio of former judges doing time in a Florida federal prison. One was sent up for tax evasion. Another, for skimming bingo profits. The third for a career-ending drunken joyride.

Meeting daily in the prison law library, taking exercise walks in their boxer shorts, these judges-turned-felons can reminisce about old court cases, dispense a little jailhouse justice, and contemplate where their lives went wrong. Or they can use their time in prison to get very rich—very fast.

And so they sit, sprawled in the prison library, furiously writing letters, fine-tuning a wickedly brilliant extortion scheme—while events outside their prison walls begin to erupt. A bizarre presidential election is holding the nation in its grips, and a powerful government figure is pulling some very hidden strings. For the Brethren, the timing couldn’t be better.

Because they’ve just found the perfect victim.

It’s been quite a few years since I read a Grisham novel. It did not disappoint.

Crime does pay .. apparently

I read this book before. I enjoyed it a lot. It was interesting to see how an election could go. I do feel that there was some karma that should have taken place.

My biggest problem was the narrator made it sound like everyone was this slimy sneaky character. When I read it there was distinct differences in my head to how they would sound and a distinction between the characters I should be cheering on. I did not get that from his reading of the book.

I’ve wanted to read this book since it was released in 2000. I even owned the hard copy for a time, but just couldn’t get into it.

The narrator sounds like the Wish.com version of Robert Stack from Unsolved Mysteries. So hard to listen to him, but I’m determined to FINALLY get through this book.

***SPOILERS***

This book did not age well!!!

The scam carried out by the Brethren is disgraceful and gross.

The (now) prophetic narrative of a war in the Middle East is morbidly amusing, as this was written pre-9/11.

This did not age well (SPOILERS!)

Have tried a few times to get into this book. I found the narration very difficult to hold my interest. No offence to the narrator, but his voice made me tired. All other John Grisham books I just had to know the ending. In this one, I’ll never know!

Unfortunately I couldn’t get through this book
