Although it is well written and I enjoyed learning about the Dominican Republic’s political history, I found the story itself, with its needlessly constant crude language and stunted sexual male hormonal focus, without solid context or actual meaning and honestly, just depressing. There didn’t seem to be a point or deeper meaning connecting the individual stories and individual character narrations which were disjointed.
I kept listening thinking it must get better and there must be a connection finally made, but finally, almost at the end, I gave up. I always came away with a sick, unwashed, depressed feeling.
