Publisher's Summary

Number-one New York Times, USA Today, and internationally best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with this steamy, shocking third installment of the Origin series that will leave listeners reeling.

He is the darkest star.

She is the burning shadow.

And together, they will bring about the brightest night.

Less than a year ago, Evelyn Dasher was a normal girl, living a safe, rather unremarkable life - a life that was a total lie. Now she's learned the truth about who she was and what she is.

Hidden within Zone 3, she knows that if she loses control of her dangerous abilities again, she not only puts everyone in the secret community at risk, but also the beautiful, deadly inhuman Luc. He will do anything to keep her safe. Lie. Barter. Beg. Kill.

But there are truths that not even Luc can prepare for, and as Evie's abilities evolve, the consequences of everything he's done turn devastating.

Luc is stepping into the darkness. But Evie might already be lost to the shadows.

Can't wait for the next

There has to be another. I really liked the character development and the strength the main characters give to each other. The reader makes it easy to follow who is speaking even with some fast paced conversations. I want to know how Luke and Evy end up

Please tell me this isn’t the last...

The story was built up great and the characters were pretty dynamic. I’m not happy about the ending but I won’t spoil it. Definitely a favourite of mine❤️

Not the best

I love, love, love Jennifer L. Armentrout, but just didn't care for this book. I found it boring and the romance scenes were just...blah. And there was too much long-winded romance scenes. I honestly skipped over many of them.

Not her best writing and lately her books feel rushed. Hoping the next is better!

Pace was better than the last...

I am glad to see that this book picked up more from the last book, in all the possible ways. Some very interesting characters service and you will know what I'm talking about when you get there. (Mind blowing) The only downside of this book is that I wish I would have waited a few years before starting this series only because of the similar correlations to covid outbreak that is all over everything. I would rather not read about things that I am having to deal with everyday that I would rather not. I understand how writing about relevant things and I am not saying it is exactly the same but you can see parallels. Anywho glad to see more of old characters that I fell in love with in the last series. I also love seeing Evie and Luc both grow so much both emotionally and in strength. Warning there is a major cliffhanger and the next book doesn't have a release date at this time.

Evie immature?! Seriously?…don’t think so!

First of all, I hope JLa gives us book 4!!!! Luc is adorable and so awesome, words cannot express how deeply I love him!!! I’m intrigued by Greyson, I like him, but I always fall for the gay guy (he is, right). I want to know more about him. I love having the characters from Lux!!!

About Evie being immature? Her life is a complete chaos!! Everything she knew was a lie, it’s shock after shock and she takes it like a woman!!!! The mother she loved betrayed her, and she has to watch her die, and despite her betrayal, she’s the only mother she knew and she loved her. She was turned into an experiment, she accepts it and keeps working hard to be an asset to the community!!!!

This book is amazing! Every character has depth and growth. I can’t wait for the next book. I read somewhere that it might come out 2024? She’s very busy with the Blood and Ash series and it’s accompanying series. I NEED BOOK FOUR!!!!!

Was on the fence but now yeah I like it

I wouldn’t exactly call it steamy, but since they’re basically high schoolers, and this is a young adult book, I had no idea it was I get it now. To them this would be steamy and romantic. It doesn’t even matter because the story is so good that I can’t wait for next book anyway.

best in the series so far

This book we saw so much growth in the characters than in previous books. I had a hard time with Evie's character in the first book. the second book was better but she still seemed quite self centered and immature. Some immaturity is to be expected in a YA book but given the serious plot line, Evie was just a bit ridiculous. In this book she has really evolved though.
the relationship between Evie/Nadia and Luc also evolved which was gratifying as a reader.
Spoilers......

The plot line if this book and what is leading into the last book is erie. The government introducing a gene mutation agent amid flu vaccines is so on the nose from what we have been through the last few years. I can understand why the author pushed the release of The Fevered Winter back because the details about what Deadalus is planning is so similar to the pandemic. There was also foreshadowing that Dasher has mutated. Nadia remembered it in her dream state. I hope to see a showdown where he goes down.
Nate and the children are the reason why I didn't give this book 5 stars. The things that were done to him and the heart wrenching circumstances of all the children are sad. I hope Nate and his sister end up being okay. He was put in such as horrible position to betray Evie. How will tbey survive alone in the city? Its not right. He's a kid! What do people expect of him? No one should blame him.
The book ends on MAJOR cliffhanger which was annoying. I have to believe that Luc and Evie/Nadia will prevail together and will get their HEA so to speak.

A very good third book!

The Brightest Night is the third book in the Origin series, which is a spin-off of the Lux series. And it matters here, cause you should really have read all the books that come before this one. And this is going to be a hard review to write too because I really don't want to spoil anything, and there's a lot to spoil!

Let's start with the plot. It was calm yet eventful. We had those nice, quiet moments and from one second to the next, everything could change. It really kept me on the edge of my seat. The few times I thought I knew what was going to happen, Jen took it to a whole other level and I ended up being completely startled and shocked.
Another thing I loved about this book was that we went deeper with the characters, we got to another layer, I felt. I got to know them better and feel what they felt and really understand them. I really loved this side of the story. And I love the secondary characters just as much as the main ones, it's just such a great cast all around.
We also went deeper into their relationships, whether it was the main romantic one or the friendships, it's so cool to see them evolve and grow, especially for the original Lux characters. They are so dear to my heart and every time there was a scene with them, I was engrossed.
There was also some great banter and I'm such a sucker for good banter, it made me smirk and laugh a lot.
The only note I would have is that it was a bit slow at times, and the twists in most of the book were little problems that were fixed easily and I ended up feeling a bit of a rut.

Still, all in all, it was a very good book and I honestly cannot express how badly I need the next book, as in right this second. I was expecting a big final twist but not THIS. I am definitely not over it. I need more and I need it now, noooooooooow, NOOOOOOOOW.
Okay, that's all!
