Publisher's Summary

Number-one New York Times, USA Today, and internationally best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with this steamy, shocking third installment of the Origin series that will leave listeners reeling.

He is the darkest star.

She is the burning shadow.

And together, they will bring about the brightest night.

Less than a year ago, Evelyn Dasher was a normal girl, living a safe, rather unremarkable life - a life that was a total lie. Now she's learned the truth about who she was and what she is.

Hidden within Zone 3, she knows that if she loses control of her dangerous abilities again, she not only puts everyone in the secret community at risk, but also the beautiful, deadly inhuman Luc. He will do anything to keep her safe. Lie. Barter. Beg. Kill.

But there are truths that not even Luc can prepare for, and as Evie's abilities evolve, the consequences of everything he's done turn devastating.

Luc is stepping into the darkness. But Evie might already be lost to the shadows.

Can't wait for the next

There has to be another. I really liked the character development and the strength the main characters give to each other. The reader makes it easy to follow who is speaking even with some fast paced conversations. I want to know how Luke and Evy end up

Please tell me this isn’t the last...

The story was built up great and the characters were pretty dynamic. I’m not happy about the ending but I won’t spoil it. Definitely a favourite of mine❤️

Not the best

I love, love, love Jennifer L. Armentrout, but just didn't care for this book. I found it boring and the romance scenes were just...blah. And there was too much long-winded romance scenes. I honestly skipped over many of them.

Not her best writing and lately her books feel rushed. Hoping the next is better!

Seriously?!?!

I like the series, mostly Luc and his quirky way of holding on to some form of easy adolescence that was clearly taken from him all while being a strong leader way too early.
HOWEVER....
I finished this authors latest book in a different series (yes, kingdom of flesh and fire) went to her website, and started this series. Website did not say this was an ongoing series, just listed the 3 main books. So my expectations that book 3 of Origins would wrap this story up and conclude. Nope. If this is the last book, I am very disappointed and encourage you to find something else to read.
If this isn't the last book (which I can't find anywhere that says the author has plans for another installment as of the time of this review), I strongly suggest the publisher or author at the very least make it easy to find and let readers know there will be another book.

Great Performance, Great Book

Narrator is so good that I keep forgetting she's one person and female. I'm amazed at how well she does her male voices.
Loving all the secrets that unfold. The Lux and Origin Series are some of my favorite books by the author.

Amazing series! I need more though.

LOVED IT. Please write more for this whole series. The characters good and bad are amazing. I need to know what else is coming. I'm begging for more books for this whole series.

Very YA, teenage romance, story a bit predictable

So I read a lot of good reviews for the Lux series and somehow ended starting with this one. It was okay to kill time, but not WOW as I hoped and hyped by reading reviews. But then again someone might LOVE it and that is ok. I thought it quite slow paced at times and dragged out unnecessary.

Not the last book....

First, I would like to address the ending, since most of the reviews here complain about it. I think any of these people read this and assume it is a trilogy. My assumption is actually the opposite. As the Lux series, which I have not actually read, was more than three books, this series, based on this ending and my knowledge of the author, is certainly not over. That being said, the ending was intense, and not bad at all. Was it what you wanted to happen? No. But no good book goes exactly the way a person assumes it will. If it did, it would be cliché and people would complain about that instead.

I liked this book. I like this author. And although there is no official announcement yet, I suspect we will get news of another book for this series soon.

A very good third book!

The Brightest Night is the third book in the Origin series, which is a spin-off of the Lux series. And it matters here, cause you should really have read all the books that come before this one. And this is going to be a hard review to write too because I really don't want to spoil anything, and there's a lot to spoil!

Let's start with the plot. It was calm yet eventful. We had those nice, quiet moments and from one second to the next, everything could change. It really kept me on the edge of my seat. The few times I thought I knew what was going to happen, Jen took it to a whole other level and I ended up being completely startled and shocked.
Another thing I loved about this book was that we went deeper with the characters, we got to another layer, I felt. I got to know them better and feel what they felt and really understand them. I really loved this side of the story. And I love the secondary characters just as much as the main ones, it's just such a great cast all around.
We also went deeper into their relationships, whether it was the main romantic one or the friendships, it's so cool to see them evolve and grow, especially for the original Lux characters. They are so dear to my heart and every time there was a scene with them, I was engrossed.
There was also some great banter and I'm such a sucker for good banter, it made me smirk and laugh a lot.
The only note I would have is that it was a bit slow at times, and the twists in most of the book were little problems that were fixed easily and I ended up feeling a bit of a rut.

Still, all in all, it was a very good book and I honestly cannot express how badly I need the next book, as in right this second. I was expecting a big final twist but not THIS. I am definitely not over it. I need more and I need it now, noooooooooow, NOOOOOOOOW.
Okay, that's all!
