Publisher's Summary

Avo was born to destroy New Vultun. In a twist of fate, he'll become its only hope for salvation.

The gods were the enemy. The slaver. The chains.

With dreams of paradise, humanity slaughtered them and stole their powers, opening the path to become more—to ascend.

Instead, they nearly destroyed the world.

Vast hive cities serve as the final bastions against the crumbling of reality. New Vultun is the greatest of them all, and within its borders, ascenders wage war to determine the laws of existence itself.

The world descends ever deeper into ruination.

Avo was born a weapon, a slave to his instincts and his masters. He and his brothers were made to burn New Vultun to ashes. Everything changes when Avo gains immortality and becomes heir to an impossible legacy.

He must ascend the megacity of New Vultun.

He must challenge the very tyrants that usurped the gods.

He must finally free the world from chains.

a very in depth but good listen

I must admit, the other review is right. the amount of terms thrown at you and how different parts of this world works is a slow drip feed, but you do get to learn the basics of the most common words sprinkled throughout the book. This is a projected started on fanfiction sites, and it's described as a 'Godpunk Progression Fantasy'. I don't really see the people in the book as 'villians' as you would in a traditional sense. more so a roadblock onto the main characters arc of changing this fucked up city for the better. it shows the more powerful people around Avo, while also dangling the possibility of Avo overcoming them in powerlevel. wonderful book!

What?

I have no fucking clue what is going on. This "author" just shits out terminology and moves on, fuck you if you don't know what that terminology means, at least in context to this world hes building. You'll know what ghouls, ghosts, thaumaturgy etc means but in context to this book, you have no idea. So you go and check out Reddit, see if someone there can explain it. Nope, the fucking author answered the question and now I'm even more confused because he makes even less sense IRL and is more interested in impressing you with his knowledge of a thesaurus then helping anyone understand anything.

The two big "baddies" Mirror Head and Green River are practically the same person. They sit around asking questions looking at Avo with everything but their eyes. Its like this guy played Cyberpunk 2077, read some Warhammer40k, took a hit of biker speed and shit this book out overnight. Wasted credit.

The narrator is AWESOME though. 100% the only reason I finished. I look forward to listening to more stuff by him.

The book though? Good luck people. Good luck.
