Magic can save you. Magic can kill you.

Students at the Magisterium are supposed to be safe. Under the watchful eyes of the mages, they are taught to use magic to bring order to a chaotic world.

But now the chaos is fighting back. Call, Tamara, and Aaron should be worrying about things like pop quizzes and magic contests. Instead, after the shocking death of one of their classmates, they must track down a sinister killer . . . and risk their own lives in the process.

As Call, Tamara, and Aaron discover, magic can only be as good as the person who wields it. In evil hands, it has the capacity to do immeasurable harm—unless it is stopped in time.

In this striking third book of Magisterium, bestselling authors Holly Black and Cassandra Clare present us with a school where anything—good or evil—can happen, and the only way to unlock the truth is to risk everything to find it.

This book is the third instalment in the Magisterium Series by Black and Clare. The characters are mostly children and are all magical. It is an interesting mix of friendship, loyalty and creativity as three best friends try to find the spy at the Wizard school and who is trying to kill one or more of them.

This world of wizardry is filled with amazing characters and unique creatures in a setting that is extremely creative and well crafted. The story flows well and is filled with action, adventure, suspense, mystery and explores the ever present fight between good and evil. The story is told from a young person’s point of view giving insight into their thought processes, motivations and actions they take. The child-like wonder, innocence and concerns of the main characters serves to highlight their fight against the evil that threatens them. I thought it courageous that the outcomes of their decisions are not always the perfect happy ending one often expects. I like that this book has multiple layers proving a rich reading experience.

An interesting, action-packed story.
