About this listen

Number one New York Times, USA Today, and internationally best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout returns to the world of the Lux with The Burning Shadow, the steamy, shocking second installment of the Origin series that will leave listeners reeling.

When Evelyn Dasher crossed paths with Luc, she was thrown headfirst into the world of the Lux - only to discover she was already far more involved in their world than she ever suspected.

Because the Luxen aren’t the only ones with a hidden past. There’s a gap in Evie’s memory, lost months of her life and a lingering sense that something happened, something she can’t remember and nobody is willing to tell her. She needs to find out the truth about who she is - and who she was. But every answer she finds only brings up more questions.

Her search for the truth brings her ever closer to Luc, the Origin at the center of it all. He’s powerful, arrogant, inhumanly beautiful, extremely dangerous...and possibly in love with her. But even as Evie falls for him, she can’t help but wonder if his attraction is to her or to the memory of a girl who no longer exists.

And all the while, a new threat looms: reports of a flu-like, fatal virus that the government insists is being spread by Luxen. A horrifying illness that changes whoever it touches, spreading panic across a country already at its breaking point.

I love this author, I have this series and others. Yet, generally speaking for the love of baby jesus WHY WHY WHY do authors write, smart, strong female lead characters who upon facing something become ridiculously unable to sort out basic concepts like secrets and why they happen. Writing a character with above average self awareness in extreme circumstances, only to conveniently forget everything that has happened and start behaving like an emotional mess with inner and outer cringe dialogue that is irrational and the opposite of how they are being written overall.. It's exhausting.

Great story, strong female rdiculously written.

Loved the narrator, voices were easy to follow the different characters. I enjoyed this second installment and look forward to the third. Would have enjoyed a little more romance but the tension keeps getting higher so maybe more later ;)

Really Good!

This had tons of potential but lacked the normal just can’t stop reading feeling I always get. The character Luc was left to sound so much less than the good looking, loving character that he was by the person reading. He sounded more of a slow learner. I know the author would never have meant for that but in this reading he was not brought out the way he could have and should have been.
I feel that there were a lot of voices required and all were done well but Luc and that left me not feeling the deep love that you look for in these books.
I felt that there were a lot of components in the book that were irrelevant and kind of left you wondering why they had happened at all.
I love love love this author but I am glad that this was not my first read of her books or it might have been my last.

Slow read
