Gordon Weiss has lived in New York and worked in numerous conflict and natural disaster zones including Bosnia, Afghanistan, Darfur, Pakistan, Congo, and Haiti. Employed by the United Nations for over 12 years, Weiss is now a writer, speaker, and analyst of international affairs as well as a founding advisor to the International Crimes Evidence Project, currently investigating war crimes.

Wow, this was a very good book
The book covers a terrible chapter of humanity, and when combined with the fact that such detailed play-by-plays of important historical events can be very dry, I was not expecting too much from my reading experience. I also honestly started this book with medium-low interest in the subject. So I was not prepared for what happened next which was that I was conpletely captivated.
The author has a pleasant writing style that quickly engrosses the reader. He is able to bring together a certain narrative to the events and the broader context of the civil war in a way that is exciting and enjoyable to listen to, a very tall order. He masterfully sprinkles anecdotes and information about international politics/law in a way that is not boring, but actually (surprisingly) kind of thrilling.
I was really not expecting this to be the pager turner it was but found myself sneaking off to listen to the book at every moment I could and has sparked a greater passion for Sri Lanka and some of the underlying themes of human rights and non-combatant protections in war. For those going into the book with a bit more direct interest in the subject, I'm sure you will find the book to be very rich and impressive to read.
