À propos de cet audio
Jackie and Pete King have lived in Dunmore for years, running one of the two local pubs in the sleepy little town. Money has been tight after the bushfires, and it’s about to get tighter if they can’t find a way to pay their suppliers to keep their business going and keep the bank from foreclosing on their property. So when Jackie receives a mysterious phone call offering them $100,000 to let someone bury a body on their land, the answer isn’t as simple as they thought it would be.
It’s a deal that could change their lives. But when a woman in the next town over goes missing, it’s a deal that could ruin them forever.

Characters are stupid
Can we not talk about the elephant in the room when it comes to this book and the stupidity of getting a call offering 100K in exchange for them burying a body on your property and you actually considering it? When will this ever turn out in the positive? I’ll tell you when, it’s positive in this paranoid roller coaster of a book.
I’m not gonna lie the first hour and a half of this book I thought what the fudge?! these people are stupid, spend the money, spend the money, that or figure out what you’re gonna tell the cop so you don’t end up in jail and then the story continued and I thought I wonder if the neighbour is a serial killer and this is one of his kills and because he’s moving, he needs to move the body. so imagine my surprise when you get to the end…
My initial thoughts until the last 30 minutes are below.
100 grand when you’re so much in debt, have more than one mortgage on your home and more than one mortgage on your business is not gonna last very long, but you know what will last longer?the fact that the people that gave you the money now have your tush in their hands, forever! They can blackmail you for that same hundred thousand dollars. That’s my first thought when the phone call comes in and they start to think about it. I’m like, no! There’s a dead body on your property and if at any point cops get any kind of hint that this body is on your property, how do you explain it?!?! “Well, some random person called and asked to bury the body and decided they will pay us $100k for it, we don’t know anything and aren’t involved”, Isn’t going to cut it, it will only get you thrown in prison. Dumb a**.
Then we have to talk about the fact that the neighbor’s house was sold for one point whatever million, why the thought didn’t go through their mind that maybe they should just sell both the business and the home and pay the money back to the bank, then pocket the rest and run like hell I don’t understand. It might not actually work, depending on how much they owe, but it’s better than what they are considering.
Can I ask why they didn’t negotiate and ask for 500k or more if they were going to take the money?, at least $500,000 can keep them afloat for a while, or until the body dumpers decide they want to dump more bodies. ‘Cause that’s another thing they didn’t think about, the fact that one body may lead to more and since they said yes to one, they can’t say no to the others…being held by the short and curlies and all.
Then we have them getting the money and their first instinct is to just put it away. hello!! idiots, your first thing is to plan at how you are going to get rid of the money as fast as possible! How does one come to the conclusion that the body is likely that of a criminal, but not think about the fact that the money may have been attained through criminal means? Put that sh*t in various banks, send some to your kids, pay off your debt and get it out of your hands. Frig, even bury some in your back yard so it’s not in the house.
For a three hour book it frustrated me more than a 10 hour book and I think it was just because like others have commented the characters are just plain stupid.
I really wonder about the reviews on Audible and I almost feel guilty, (almost.) when I leave a negative review when every other review that surrounds mine are 4.5 star or 5 stars and I’m wondering what they listened to to get that rating. -🤷🏻♀️.
By the end I thought, for real? Then I shook my head and changed my rating from one star to a 3 star.

A little thriller with a big heart.
This short story packs a big punch! I loved listening to The Call. It's a thriller with a good dose of humour and a big heart, solid character development, and a plot to die for. Authors Christian White and Summer DeRoche did an outstanding job collaborating on the writing. Sibylla Budd's Aussie accent shines and her narration is smooth as silk.
