Publisher's Summary

From critically acclaimed New York Times best-selling author Peter F. Hamilton comes The Captain's Daughter, Book 2 in his audio original Arkship trilogy.

With the help of a command AI, the hole in the Daedalus has been fixed by Hazel and her friends. But in the process, they have antagonized the Yi, the aliens who are actually controlling the Daedalus. After a daring escape from the Yi, Hazel and her friends now must convince the people of the Daedalus villages and the village leaders that the Yi exist - and that they must fight back in order to survive. This proves tricky, as those in power don't want their authority challenged.

In order to produce proof of their dire situation, Hazel and her friends have to return to the forward section of the Daedalus to find another surviving command AI so they can find where the Yi are hiding and what their goal is. What Hazel and her friends discover is the terrible secret of the Yi, and what they have been doing on board the Daedalus for the last five hundred years.

The Captain's Daughter is a thrilling continuation of the story that unfolded in A Hole in the Sky, Peter F. Hamilton's first YA novel, that will appeal to all his legions of fans.

Solidly good concept but way too young

Good hard sci-fi derivative (see Bear, Hull Zero Three) concept but with loads of whiny YA filler. Just doesn’t speak like a PF Hamilton. Competent narrator but should stick to Jane Austin novels.

Don’t Pay Attention to Other Reviews

Peter Hamilton is a master at hard sci fi, this audiobook series is no exception. I believe the other reviewers are being dismissive of the excellent world building and insight into human nature and the future of humanity. The author excels at creating alien species and giving them realistic detail.
There is a female protagonist, and a female narrator. There is a romance subplot and some coming of age storyline. Some listeners were obviously offended by this, I was not one of them.
I think it is a stretch to call this YA. There are some themes consistent with YA, but the characters are well developed and the story is mature.

Sorry, but even YA need good narrators

The first book survived, barely, on the strength of the story. But this second volume is weak both in story and narration. I am struggling to complete this book, and I am afraid this is the last one for me in this series.

Better than the first one

The teenage angst gets worse. Too much time worrying about the boyfriend.
The storyline gets better. Peter Hamilton knows how to write aliens, and how to tell a story.

Hamilton’s worst

I like most of the authors books, but the characters in this trilogy are just awful. Sounds like it was written by a teenaged incel.
