In the west end of London, an apparently crazed individual is on the loose, breaking into art galleries and private homes to slash valuable paintings of women. Despite Scotland Yard's best efforts, the criminal remains at large and continues on his destructive path. When Joanna and the Watsons are called in to solve the mystery, they soon discover that although the canvases have been slashed, their backings remain pristine, with no cuts or scratches. The criminal, it seems, is no mere vandal - he's searching for something hidden behind the portraits.

Nancy Springer is brilliant again!
Enola Holmes is the perfect foil for her brother, the brilliant Sherlock Holmes. The character Enola Holmes continues to grow in this novel. She is most clever, yet naive in so many ways. She creates a unique life for herself, living undercover while she runs the office of a fictional doctor who finds lost things!
The book is clever, fast paced and engaging. Page after page you wonder what is the next adventure for Enola, what predicament will she get herself into, and how will she cleverly escape!

Great series
I have loved these well told tales. Ms. Springer and Ms. keligren have delighted on who is woefully tired of violence, raw sex, and foul language propping up weak, as well as good, stories that OUGHT to be enjoyed for their pwn substance. I no longer wish to hear the stuff of military and athletic normalcy. Rise above and write stories that are just enjoyable and uplifting. Dave. Worsham
