Publisher's Summary

“Sharp, brilliantly plotted, and totally engrossing.” (Karen M. McManus, New York Times best-selling author of One of Us Is Lying)

“A crafty, dark, and disturbing story.” (Kathleen Glasgow, New York Times best-selling author of Girl In Pieces)

“A little bit Riverdale and a little bit Veronica Mars.” (Riley Sager, best-selling author of Final Girls, a Goodreads Best Young Adult Book of the Year Nominee)

From the author of The Darkest Corners and Little Monsters comes an all-new edge-of-your-seat thriller set in upstate New York about an eerie sequence of seemingly unrelated events that leaves five cheerleaders dead.

There are no more cheerleaders in the town of Sunnybrook. First there was the car accident - two girls dead after hitting a tree on a rainy night. Not long after, the murders happened. Those two girls were killed by the man next door. The police shot him, so no one will ever know his reasons.

Monica's sister was the last cheerleader to die. After her suicide, Sunnybrook High disbanded the cheer squad. No one wanted to be reminded of the girls they'd lost. That was five years ago. Now the faculty and students at Sunnybrook High want to remember the lost cheerleaders. But for Monica, it's not that easy. She just wants to forget. Only, Monica's world is starting to unravel. There are the letters in her stepdad's desk, an unearthed, years-old cell phone, a strange new friend at school. . . .

Whatever happened five years ago isn't over. Some people in town know more than they're saying. And somehow, Monica is at the center of it all. There are no more cheerleaders in Sunnybrook, but that doesn't mean anyone else is safe.

More praise for Kara Thomas:

“Gripping from start to finish...with twists that left me shocked.” (Victoria Aveyard, number-one New York Times best-selling author of Red Queen)

“You'll be up all night tearing through the pages.” (BUSTLE)

“This deliciously deceptive thriller...is a must-have.” (SLJ)

felt more like an episode of cold case

this book really hit a lot of good dramatic spots. i liked the story and the twists but something about it seemed kind of plan to me. not really a story that stays with you but good to listen to.

That Twist Though

Usually I pride myself on knowing what happens in a mystery before it is revealed to us but I wasnt really expecting either twist. The only issue I had with the book (well just the audio) is the way to narrator voiced any teenager that wasnt to protagonist. That over exaggerated valley girl or dumb surfer voice is really played out and hard on the ears. Other than that I loved the book from start to finish.

Not a thriller or horror, just a mystery

The cover is misleading. Nothing but a mystery. It wasn't bad. It had lots of potential but I dislike stories that leave vital clues (or in this case, huge completely unknowable information) until the end. It just makes them not as strong. Like less thought went into the development of the mystery. Lacks foreshadowing.

Good for teens and adults

It’s hard to write a book that would have equal appeal to both adults and teenagers, but where others have failed, Kara Thomas succeeded. The book is well-paced and keeps you guessing right up until the end. At the end, she also does a nice job of tying up all the threads weaves throughout the book. All around great story.

This is the first book I’ve heard read by Phoebe Strole, and I’m glad I found another great narrator.

Really entertaining!

I really enjoyed this book. The story was a bit predictable, but most YA thrillers are and in general, it is a really entertaining listen. If you're in the mood for a YA thriller that handles the usual high school tropes in a unique and interesting fashion, pick this one up! Phoebe Strole does a fantastic job narrating and I listened to this all in one sitting as I couldn't stop until I knew how it ended!
